SCH bleeding question

Hi,

Sorry for the long post but I just wondered if anyone could help me with this. I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant, I had a bleed at 7 weeks and had a scan and all was OK. I had some spotting on and off since then and had a repeat scan at 8 weeks which showed baby was fine but there was a small bleed 2cmx0.7cm. The sonographer didn't say it was a SCH, she just said it was a small implantation bleed..but from what I've read it seems it is a SCH.
The sonographer wasn't concerned at all and I wasn't advised to limit activities or anything. I've had brown spotting on and off since. I'm just wondering if any of you ladies have had a similar thing and if you were advised to rest. I'm a nurse so have a very physical job and I'm currently off work and due to go back next week but I'm worried that I should be resting until the bleed resolves. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Yes, I have. I lost a huge amount of blood at 13 weeks, it was really, really shocking. I filled a metal bedpan. After much misinformation and fear it turned out to be SCH. I was told it would resolve itself by 20 weeks and luckily it did. I had several scans in between but at the 20 week scan, the lady didn't know what I was so worried about 🙄 I wasn't advised to rest, but that sounds sensible. Thanks OP it's a scary thing to go through. DD is now a healthy, happy 9 year old.

Butterfly2301 · 28/06/2021 09:04

Thank you so much for your reply. That sounds like such a scary experience, so glad all turned out well for you Smile
I don't have any more scans until my 12 week one, even the 8 week one I had to pay private for. After my first big bleed at 7 weeks the EPU discharged me because they seen a heart beat... I was surprised by that because I thought follow up scans would be given to ensure the bleed was reducing etc

I was put on pelvic rest but otherwise could carry on as normal x

overtherainbo · 28/06/2021 16:16

@Butterfly2301 I'm currently going through the same thing. I'm 7+2 now and I was told it was a haemorrhage. I'm scared senseless. We've been trying 3 years and I want to make sure this baby sticks around. After reading other people on bed rest it's sounding impossible for me to do the same. I wasn't told much more than the size and she doesn't want it to grow, she wants it to absorb

@overtherainbo your bleed looks similar in size to what mine does on my scan photo, and I was told it was quite small, so hopefully yours is too. I know how you feel, we've been trying a long time for this baby too, so the thought of losing it is so scary😢
I spoke to EPU this morning to see if I should be resting etc and she told me that resting would make no difference and to just continue as normal and that small bleed like that are very common and because it's not in the pregnancy sac it shouldn't affect the baby. So I've decided not to Google any more because I think it's making my anxiety worse. I have another private scan booked for 10 week though just to keep myself from going crazy. Are you having further scans?

OP posts:
overtherainbo · 28/06/2021 16:32

@Butterfly2301 yes she said mine was small too. That's so reassuring to know that you've been told not to rest. I can't help feeling guilty every time I move and feel a tug. I wish I knew what was going on in there all the time. I was told to come back this Sunday so it's been one week apart but I'm seeing so many girls to two weeks and I'm unsure if I should ring and change the appointment

Garman · 28/06/2021 16:37

I wasn't told to rest with mine, just to take progesterone (which I didn't because it made me so ill) and come back for 10 week scan, so 2 weeks after. By then it was starting to slightly heal, by 12 weeks it was gone.

Butterfly2301 · 28/06/2021 16:53

I know I feel so guilty too @overtherainbo, I'm still trying to take it easy. That's good they've arranged for you to come back for a scan, EPU discharged me before even knowing what the bleed was so I'm having to pay private if I want extra scans.

@Garman that's good to know. I'm already on progesterone for previous chemical pregnancy and luteal phase defect, so I'm hoping it will hope in some way too

overtherainbo · 28/06/2021 17:07

@Butterfly2301 I'm paying private too. I've found they are more accommodating but I guess they would be getting £60 a scan wouldn't they🙈

Butterfly2301 · 28/06/2021 17:12

@overtherainbo haha yes I suppose they would be. It's expensive but worth it for peace of mind 🙂

@overtherainbo @Butterfly2301
I had quite a large SCH in my first trimester that kept growing bigger and bigger (I'm now 17 weeks) and had a bleed at around 7 weeks which was on and off spotting until around 10 weeks. I was monitored every 2 weeks until 14 weeks and told to take it super easy (I was actually signed off work but can work from home so didn't need to take the note) but I was advised to not stand up for longer than 20 mins at a time!! I think the fear when the baby is small is that if you do too many movements/ lifting and the bleed comes out too quickly whilst refilling it can pull the sack out with it so please both take it as easy as you can! ThanksXx

Butterfly2301 · 28/06/2021 18:31

@Babyno1x thanks for your reply, it's so strange how the advice differs for different people. Maybe it depends on the size and position of the bleed? Hmm
The sonographer never used the term subchorionic haematoma, she just said it was an area of bleeding possibly due to implantation, but everything I've seen online since suggests it is a SCH so I'm confused.
I'm in two minds about going back to work because my job is quite physical but then I feel bad being off if I don't need to be 🙈

overtherainbo · 28/06/2021 18:36

@Babyno1x 20mins? Wow, my school run takes around 35 mins twice a day😓

Marshy86 · 28/06/2021 18:37

Hi Op, I had a bleed from 6.5 weeks to 13. Every time I went to the toilet there would be blood and would make me so nervous! At first they told me it was a miscarriage but once they scanned me we found our baby was alive and I had a bleed on my womb. Advised to go home and not come back unless I had any clots. The morning of my 12 week scan (closer to 13) I had a clot appear but when we went in little one was fast asleep with his bum up in the air! I gave birth to a healthy 9lb 13oz boy.

Butterfly2301 · 28/06/2021 18:43

@Marshy86 aww bleeding for all those weeks must have been awful for you 😞 so glad to hear all turned out well for you and baby. Did they advise you to rest or just continue as normal?
I haven't had any red bleeding since my big bleed at 7weeks but have had brown spotting on and off since which makes me nervous

I’ve got an SCH and been bleeding on and off since 6.5 weeks (I’m 11.5 now). I had a scan last week at EPU and it has shrunk significantly but a particularly nasty bout of nausea and vomiting seems to have triggered another bleed today.
I wish I could have offer you more encouragement but you are not alone. I know how scary it is and waiting for scans seems to take an age!

Babyno1x · 28/06/2021 18:49

@overtherainbo I know right! But like I said, mine was quite large and even after a big bleed when I was rescanned it had got bigger so I think they was concerned that my daily movements were somehow making the pocket grow bigger!? I was living in fear for the first 12 weeks BUT all is well now Grin I still haven't started exercising again but long walks seem to be fine! Xx

Jellybean81 · 28/06/2021 18:55

Ive had SCH in both my pregnancies and it's terrifying - I'm sorry you're going through it.
If it's any reassurance both made it to term.
With my first I found that the bleeding was much worse if I didn't rest - to the point I was passing big clots. With this pregnancy I found rest didn't make much difference, although the bleeding was much lighter in general.

Butterfly2301 · 28/06/2021 19:24

@Bladette84 thanks for your reply, it's good to know I'm not alone in this. Sorry to hear your bleeding has started again but it's reassuring that your bleed has gotten smaller and that all was OK at your 11w scan. Yes waiting for the scans feels like forever, I'm trying to keep myself busy to distract myself but at the same time trying to take it easy 😂

@Jellybean81 thank you, sorry to hear you've had to go through this twice, it really takes the enjoyment out of the pregnancy because its just a constant worry, but great to hear of your positive outcome 🙂

@Butterfly2301 I had a SCH with my last successful pregnancy. I had a private consultant and he advised to double up on the progesterone pessaries I was already using and to stop the low dose aspirin. He didn’t advise bed rest at all. Wishing you best of luck with your pregnancy

KaleJuicer · 28/06/2021 19:32

I should add it was after four miscarriages in a row which was why I had those early interventions

Butterfly2301 · 28/06/2021 19:41

@KaleJuicer thanks for your reply. So sorry to hear about your 4 losses that must have been so difficult 😢
It was a private consultant who put me on the progesterone suppositories so maybe I should contact him and see what he advises. I'm currently on 400mg twice a day until I'm 12 weeks. Hope you don't mind me asking what dose were you increased to and how long did you have to stay on them?

OP posts:
KaleJuicer · 28/06/2021 19:46

Oh yes defo see what your consultant suggests. Its been 8 years since this happened but with the PROMISE trial the benefits of progesterone with a history of Mc has even more of a scientific basis now. I went from 400 to 800 mg and kept using it to 16 weeks instead of the originally planned 12wks

KaleJuicer · 28/06/2021 19:47

800mg twice a day

Butterfly2301 · 28/06/2021 19:54

That's good to know, thank you. I'll contact him tomorrow and see what he advises
