Early scan advice

I am 6 weeks pregnant today going by my last period. I am planning to get an early private scan for some reassurance as I previously had a miscarriage and the clinic I am going to states you have to be 8 weeks in order to get the scan. However, I am pretty certain I only conceived 3 weeks ago. Should I still book the scan going by 8 weeks from my last period date which was the 15th of may? I am just worried incase I go and they cant maybe see everything they should due to me maybe not being as far along as 8 weeks. Any advice would be appreciated sorry if this is a stupid question xx

Hi,

I had an early scan privately and they said 6+ either off your dates or LMP whichever is later so they can look at the heartbeat. Earlier they can look at the fetal pole but it’s the heartbeat that matters more. Hope this helps.

I personally would wait! I went to EPU at what I thought was 5 weeks and no baby was seen.
They told me to come back a week later (what I thought was 6 weeks) and they said I was barely 5 weeks. When I went to my dating scan I was only 4 days behind what I thought in the end.

To be honest i think they're pretty pointless and I'd wait to maybe 10 weeks if you can't wait until your dating scan just because you don't really see a lot at all! In mine you see a tiny little 2mm baby with no HB at the time!

I had more reassurance from my bloods that the pregnancy was going well rather than my early scan 😊 (with HCG doubling and good progesterone levels)

Hope all goes well for you! Xxx

Also they may state 8 weeks due to only doing abdominal scans... you definitely would need a transvaginal before this stage ! Xx

If you go too early honestly it'll just make you feel worse when they can't see enough to reassure you so leave it as late as you can bear.

I had a transvaginal at 7wks but I was very sure of my dates due to tracking ovulation.

They often say 8wks to give a buffer if you’re out at all they can still see something

Try to wait if you can, I know it’s really hard but it will be much more worth it. If you go too early, you’ll panic for the next two weeks

Tbh I'd wait if you can. I had NHS early scans with both mine due to bleeding. They can't see a lot and can do even less if there's a problem.

I know it's hard but it sounds like this 'reassurance' scan won't offer much reassurance for you
