This may sound trivial but just curious to know...when labour started and you decided to go to hospital what did you wear? Also what was you wearing when you gave birth?
I'm due first baby in Sept and been thinking of hospital bag, also how many packs of maternity pads, breast pads and nappies do I need to take?

I wore my pyjamas in (went into premature labour. And ended up in just a bra as I really hot when the contractions started x

A Gap sundress and DH’s bathrobe! That’s what I happened to be in. Anything with access to both your bits and chest (for skin to skin) is fine imo.

I gave birth mid September 2020 - it was weirdly muggy / warm.
DS was a month early and it was 5am when we had to jump in the car, so I threw on a tank top maxi dress thing because my waters were gushing and I figured trousers would probably get ruined!
I gave birth in a gown.

Take a pack of maternity pads, a few breast pads but probably won't need them till your milk comes in? And maybe 10 nappies to begin?
Keep spares of all the above in the car so your partner can top up when necessary.
Good luck!

Nighties for established labour/birth (inc elcs), I like the popper/button front ones best.
I wore pj's after birth with 1st which was daft as they got very mucky quite quickly, worn nighties after the rest until going home. I've packed 2 packs of the thick maternity pads in my hospital bag and got 4 more for at home, then I have some slimmer maternity pads too. Rather have too many than be caught short.
Got a 24pk of size 1 nappies, they fit all our others ranging from 7lb 7oz to 10lb 2oz. Also got a 64pk of wet wipes, nappy bags, fold up changing mat and anti-bac spray for those 1st changes.

*10lb 12oz... the nappies state suitable up to 11lb

I spent about 24 hrs in labour at home before going to hospital (after the point of transition, the pushing phase started at home!) so I really didn't care what I wore into hospital and kept my pyjamas on. Similar theme when I got there... I had packed a bikini but got into the birth pool completely naked!

I had nighties and some pj bottoms to walk around the hospital once they started to induce me.

When they popped my waters I was in a nightie. She told my partner to put a pad on my underwear as I needed to walk round to the delivery suite. I didn't wear bottoms then, I didn't even think about it as I was having contractions whilst walking round to the delivery suite.

When I was in labour in the delivery suite I was in my nightie but I vomited and wet myself.. Grin so they gave me a hospital gown. It was July so it was so hot. By this point I was a hot, sweaty mess with one boob out the gown and absolutely exhausted. I ended up naked in the end I was so hot.

I'm just all glamour me, clearly. I watch this programme and wonder how many women stay so glamorous!

these* not this.

Also took one pack of pads. Took breast pads but didn't need them as I didn't produce any milk.

I did pack ready made formula which is always handy just incase you need it.

Check with your hospital but they had single use sterile bottles and bottle stations to grab the bottles when we needed them.

They just don't have the facility to make up powdered formula.

Leggings and a jumper, with a big scarf wrapped round me,to the hospital in October. Just a cheap big primark tshirt to give birth in thinking I'd be throwing it but it's one of my favourite bedtime tops now 😊

boymum88 · 26/06/2021 06:21

Waters went at home so quick shower then threw on joggers vest top and hoodie. Once I got into the room stripped off to my pants and sports bra as labour was happing very quick and it was hot. I then went to put bikini top on but quickly didn't care so ended up naked. Once I had give birth just popped on a strappy nightie that I could easily pull down for skin on skin.
I took one pack of size 1 nappy's and 1 pack of mat pads only had u to stay the night so was enough

ChikiTIKI · 26/06/2021 06:50

Most likely you won't need a bra or breast pads until day 5 when milk comes in. I didn't realise this with dc1 but made the most of the extra days of comfort second time around. Even the most comfy maternity bras get annoying when you have to wear them all day and night so make the most of not bothering for the first few days.

Can I also recommend reusable bamboo breast pads from amazon are so much more comfortable than the sweaty plasticy throw away types.

Take more maternity pads than you think you need. Or have some in the car. I ran out, and had to send DH who rang me from the nappy aisle in Tesco asking if size 5 nappies (aimed at 1-2 year olds) would fit me.

I went into hospital in joggers and a t shirt, ended up giving birth in just the t shirt. I had nighties etc but didn’t have the energy or motivation to actually get changed.

Nat4392 · 26/06/2021 09:01

I was induced so I went to the hospital in leggings and changed into my PJs as it started getting late. Then laboured quite quickly so ended up just having my PJ top on and a sheet for most of the labour. I ended up having a section so had a gown on for delivery. I had some button up nighties for after which helped with BF.
Take a pack of maternity pads and a pack of size 1 nappies. You probably don’t even need breast pads unless you’re in for quite a while, I didn’t need them til my milk came in and I was discharged a day after I had baby.
I was quite lucky in that the hospital gave me tonnes of stuff - massive pads, wipes etc but I know this isn’t the case in many places.
