Prodromal labour - when to call triage?

Hello,

I posted last night wondering if I was experiencing braxton hicks (I'm 36 + 6 weeks pregnant). Since then I've discovered that what I'm experiencing is actually prodromal labour (false labour contractions). I started with these about 8pm last night and they've been continuous all the way through the night and today. They are pretty strong - enough to stop me from sleeping, so feeling a little like the walking dead today!! They average between 5-8 minutes per contraction, with each one lasting between 30-45 seconds. The pain can be quite intense, starting at the lower front of bump and moving round hips and lower back. Bump is also solid and finding it difficult to move today. Baby movements seem fine, perhaps slightly more than normal but I haven't really been able to sleep or rest so perhaps I'm keeping them up with me!?

Has anybody else experienced this sort of labour and have any tips on how to ease it/make it stop? Was it a long wait until the real deal!? Not a fan of this at all!! Thanks! Xx

Hello :-) I am currently in the same boat as you. 36+6 and for the second time now experienced several hours of regular painful contractions (period like pains) from circa 3am into the afternoon of the next day. Had this a couple of weeks ago too.

How did the rest of your pregnancy pan out? Did you have a shorter/easier labour because of the prodromal labour contractions?

@MareBear123 congratulations! Hopefully it won't be too long now! I ended up giving birth a week later - on the 1st July (can't believe this was a year ago - it's flown!). I was actually booked in for a growth scan the day before my baby's birth, and at that they told me she'd stopped growing and they wanted to induce me. I was taken on to the ward, had a sweep and it turned out I was almost 4cm dilated!! Straight to delivery and 6 hours later my baby girl was here - I never needed to be induced in the end! So for me it was a very fast delivery, but I'm not sure if this is the norm or not with this type of labour! Best of luck lovely! Xx

Hey saw there was a recent reply on this so though I’d just in. I just had a baby last year and had what I believe to be prodromal labour for a good 10 days before baby came. It was really tiring and frustrating and my labour was still 17 hours when the day finally arrived :(
im now 35+0 with second baby and last night started with the same again, contractions every 5-8 mins for about 40sec - 1min. Painful (not like full blown labour though!) round the front and radiating to hips and back. Enough to keep me awake until 3am when I decided to stop timing and consciously ignore them in favour of sleep! As I’m only 35 weeks I should probably have called assessment but baby was moving fine, I have a growth scan today anyway and I wanted some sleep! Let me know how you get on new poster!!
