16 weeks- previous LLETZ procedure

Hi all, I had severe dyskaryosis CIN grade 2 in 2019, which was removed by LLETZ Procedure and had clear smears since. I'm 16w pregnant and this flagged up at my booking in app which triggered a consultant appointment. I thought they would be scanning my cervix, however the consultant just asked me how many procedures I had, which I confirmed 1, and he said he doesn't have my notes from the LLETZ but he said I won't need a scan? I requested one anyway and he said he will "try" to get me one but this won't be until 24weeks. I'm worried as I've read so many stories on people going into labour at 20 weeks, and they're considering not even scanning me until 24! I've since found my notes from the LLETZ and it doesn't say how much cervix was removed. What shall I do?

I had a LLETZ in 2019 as well. I was offered a scan at 20w5d of my cervix. All showed up nothing to worry about thankfully.

I would push for one a little earlier or if you can afford one go private. My understanding is they aren't as expensive as some of the other scans. The closer to 20 weeks the better they can determine if there is something to worry about because the cervix does naturally change anyway through the stages of pregnancy.

Can you speak to your midwife again to push it earlier?

Have you had any symptoms such as bleeding after sex and so on?

When I looked into it the risk is actually very low i.e. 2% chance of preterm delivery over 1% of the normal population.

Try not to worry too much and also don't read too many others experiences. I could only find the bad when I looked because people don't tend to share when it all goes well. I'm not 26w4d and she's still growing well Smile

Thanks so much for your reassuring response. My midwife is actually based at a different place than my booking hospital, don't ask - the perks of living in the sticks! So I rung her and she said she hasn't got any clout with my hospital. I would definitely consider getting it checked privately though, would this info from a private clinic be enough for the NHS to put a stitch in if needed. I have a friend going through the same thing and she needed an emergency stitch at 19weeks so I'm just a little paranoid really.

Also, any idea if they'll have a record at the hospital that did the LLETZ on how much cervix was removed? Doesn't help that theee are 3 hospitals involved! X

And no I haven't had any bleeding or anything concerning, like I say it's just my friends situation that's got me a bit panicked about the lack of thoroughness x

@Leo090813

I totally get your anxiety. I was more worried about this than my actual 12 and 20 weeks scans.

I would say so. It's medical evidence and therefore if you need something they should do something about it. I actually managed to speak with a private consultant in the NHS hospital I went to and she got it booked for me via the NHS.

Have a look and see if you can get a private one. I want to say they are around £150 where I am. It's pricey but if you can afford it, hopefully it will help calm your nerves.

I assume they will hold the records of how much was removed of your cervix. Call the department you had it at maybe?

Sorry but that dr is wrong in my option, shouldn't matter how many letz you have had. It could only take one to either have taken a lot of length of or made ur cervix weak. They should be scanning you now at 16 weeks and depending on the findings rescanned in a few weeks.
Yes it could not have affect how you carry and have no problems what so Eva but what if it has changed ur cervix. It's ur baby ur body not the dr that will have to deal with the effects if something goes wrong. Treatment is also far more effective if caught early. Either by taking progesterone and or cervical suture.
I would be getting in touch with the hospital and demanding a scan this week and asking to speak to a different consultant.
Fingers crossed all is a ok but for the sake of a 5 min scan why take the risk

Hi everyone, I need further advice on this if poss. The hospital are saying "as my lletz report shows that no biopsy of my cervix was taken" i will not need a scan. Is this correct? I thought it was if you had LLetz you should be scanned anyway, didn't know anything about if it was relevant if they took a biopsy? I'm still trying to get The info to say how much was zapped away as the hosp will only scan me if more than 10mm was removed. Any help appreciated

@Leo090813 sadly I think it's very trust dependant. You might be pushing for something your trust just doesn't do. It really should be a universal offer.

I'm based in Oxfordshire and they are pretty cautious but don't offer the earlier and repeated scans that some trusts do i.e. 16, 20 and then 24 weeks. I only have one at 20 weeks and as it all looked good they said I didn't need a follow up.

It's the same as Oxfordshire offers a standard 36 week growth scan but that isn't standard across the country.

I had a biopsy and LLETZ in 2017. This was noted on my pregnancy in 2019 but no further action was taken. My pregnancy was absolutely fine.

Thank you. I've just re read the letter and it states a biopsy was taken anyway so I'm just waiting to hear back about how much was removed. Thank you!

Sadly it is hospital dependent which is the biggest load of shite, for sake of a scan.
Sadly I've seen some lady's have not a lot removed as it's made the cervix weak and lady's that have had over 10 and carry fine, I would take no for an answer
