The bit that connects my leg and pelvis keeps 'collapsing'

Well this is new and fun (sigh).

36+3 weeks with 3rd. The muscle that joins my leg and pelvis at the front (groin??) feels like it is collapsing every few minutes.

Its mostly on my left but happens occasionally on my right too.

Started yesterdsy but getting more and more frequent. Not horrifically painful, but sore and buckles me (in that my leg almost gives way). If I feel it coming on and lift my leg it still happens.

Anyone had this and have any tips to make it go away? I am currently sitting which has eased it but have 2 very small children and a house in pieces (renovation/extension) so sitting down for 3 more weeks is not such an option.

Yes. Please refer to physio, you might be seen prior to birth but you’ll most likely benefit from it afterwards as well. This happened to me at about 24 weeks with my fourth (and last!) dc and it was awful, I ended up with severely limited mobility the more my pregnancy progressed, and ended up using crutches towards the end. Trying to get my leg to work when I needed to get up in the night was the worst. In my case it wasn’t an easy recovery, I had SPD in 2 of my previous pregnancies which went away after the birth but I was still having difficulty after a year this time. The elastic girdle I was given by physio wasn’t comfortable but did help slightly.

Agree with pp, contact your midwife urgently and get seen by the obstetric physiotherapist.

Oh no, thanks so much for replying. I had quite bad pelvic pain in both previous pregnancies (never got anyone to officially diagnose it) that indeed went away straight afterwards. It hasn't been as bad this time, probably because I haven't had the work commute/can sit down more. Plus there's a much bigger gap between 2&3 than there was between 1&2.

The idea that it might carry on after baby is a bit terrifying though, I'd be worried I'd drop the baby!

Will rest up tonight and hope it eases up (potentially overdone it last couple of days) and if not will call a private physio (can't imagine I'll get an NHS referral this side of Christmas).

Oh the joys!

I was surprised to be seen incredibly quickly, but this was pre pandemic, in our area you self refer to physio and I think they do prioritise pregnant women. What surprised me in my case was how quickly it came on. I remember standing up after we’d had a lunch out and realising I couldn’t move my leg forward. Pretty terrifying, and I remember a lovely sales woman in Boots being very concerned I was about to give birth right there and then because of how I was hobbling around holding my pelvis Grin

You can also see a private osteopath for this. It was a problem with my sacroiliac that did this for me and two visits to an osteopath sorted it right out. The osteopath was a pregnancy specialist (although this was after I'd given birth - long story).

Thanks ladies. I've just emailed a sports massage/physio that's very nearby to see if they can help.

Issue is I live in the back end of beyond so can't get anywhere without driving and the closest osteopath would almost certainly be in the nearest city which is a 2 hour return trip.

Physio or chiro would be my only options nearby.

Did it ever kick in when driving? It doesn't do it all when sitting but am concerned that driving could be a problem (thankfully I have an automatic so not quite so much pedal work).

Yes mine did give me some trouble when driving, not as badly as when I was walking though. Funnily enough nearly 2 years on its when driving now that I’m most likely to have a problem
