Freeze-drying breast milk into powdered formula - a couple of questions...

Hi all,

I'm 16 weeks pregnant with my first baby and just came across this company on Tiktok which freeze-dries breast milk. It seems like a great idea to me! I have a couple of questions:

  • Do you think this will be a total fad?

And

  • Do you know of any companies doing this in the UK? I can only seem to find US companies doing it, namely www.boobyfood.com/ &
www.milkify.me/

Thanks x

Why is it a great idea? Surely it's adding in a load of cost, time and faff into breastfeeding/expressing?

I’ve never heard of it before. I don’t see why anyone would do it. Surely you have all the same faff of FF though as you would have to sterilise/ make up feeds etc? Much easier to just feed baby straight from the boob IMO. Expressed breast milk already has a pretty long shelf life of 6 months in the freezer & I never needed to store it anywhere near as long as that. I bet it isn’t cheap either.

Capitalism hates breastfeeding. It’s very hard to make much money out of it. Kudos to these companies for finding a new way to try.

I really don’t think it’s a great idea at all. Breast milk freezes really well. What would be the point?

I think this is an AMAZING idea - I am desperately trying to find something here in the UK. I am an exclusive pumper (yes its way more work then nursing as mentioned above... and personally I didn't chose this journey but here we are...)

I haven't been able to find anything in the UK - I am blessed with an abundant milk supply and would love to stop pumping at 6 months as I produce about double what my little one needs... I have no space to store it and will be moving back to the US and need somewhere to put it all. Freeze drying is a GREAT solution!

Just looked at the pricing. They’re having a laugh aren’t they?
