Anyone took a Cybex priam with the carrycot on a plane?
It is quite chunky and the carrycot doesn't fold :(

We also have a small light one, the maxicosi lara2, but DD likes her cot and facing us as she is still quite small..

What would you recommend?

You will have to check anything that doesn't fit in the seat (even car seat that doesn't fit and you booked an extra seat), overhead or under seat. If long haul, you can request a bassinet. It's not guaranteed to get one. It clips into the bulkhead. Bring your own blankets to line it.

For getting on and off the plane, what about baby wearing in a sling? There are a couple stroller-style prams that file up to take on a plane as carry-on, but I don't know if any suitable for newborns or with a carrycot (travelled on a 12 hour flights when dd was 7 months, but this was almost two years ago now!).

Agree with a sling, check your buggy at the gate, and buy a 2nd hand buggy to take so if it gets drop kicked, it's not your one beloved pushchair. We took a 4 month old, and just had a cheap 2nd hand Gracco pushchair and car seat, which we checked in then baby sat ion my knee.

I've flown with our out and about nipper before, not with a Carry cot, but it was chunky, I also took the toddler car seat with us, I just bought good bags for them to go in and keep them protected when in the hold etc

Dont take your expensive, nice pram with you.
Buy a cheep (or second hand) umbrella fold or the ones that fold in the middle that is suitable from birth.
Take a sling, because even if they allow you to gate check, you might not get it back til baggage reclaim.

What are you doing about car seats?

A babyzen yoyo + lie flat car seat?
And a sling.

SunnySideUp2020 · 21/06/2021 12:57

For car seat we are hiring one.
I know some people have had bad experiences with renting but that's our option for now. We aren't going to use car much anyway.

And we do have the lie flat car seat from cybex at home but i find she still gets very hot inside and we re going somewhere very warm so didnt want to take the seat and chassis.

I think I'll just have to take the maxicosi with an umbrella and the sling.

@Mustbemagic
We already bought the prams and the yoyo is very expensive 😅 so can't really have a third one for now...

I will definitely take the sling with me but she doesn't like it! If anyone has tips on how to make baby like sling i will take any 😁
She likes to look around and observe so she cries as soon as put in the sling.

I’ve not travelled with that particular pram but I have travelled multiple times with our Uppababy vista. We invested in the travel bag and checked it in at the gate. Use a sling to get on/off plane/through passport control and baggage reclaim (was also a lifesaver for getting little one asleep).
Failing that, lots of bubble wrap and a big box should keep it nice and safe. We did something similar with our (rather large) rear facing car seat, which worked really well. You can never travel light with a baby!

Do you have any sling libraries near you? You can usually hire different carriers for a couple of weeks, can't remember if it's three or four months that they can face out, but she may prefer a more structured carrier that a stretchy wrap, I know my DD did and the along libraries were great for that. Think I paid £15 for two weeks hire
