A bit of a surprise but we are both rather happy. I have PCOS and as such have periods whenever my body decides. As my periods are always late DP made a joke after opening the kids (his stepkids) presents that "wouldn't it have been funny if you were pregnant and announced it today har har". Well it niggled at me so I grabbed a test and lo and behold, here we are.

Have a VERY strong positive and roughly about 4 weeks so super early. Question is, what do I do now? It's been 7 years since my DD and I have ompletely forgotten what the first and next steps are!

Folic acid and Vitamin D (or a pregnancy multivitamin) is the first step!

Then I think it may differ from area to area or on your medical history. In my area you book in with the midwife online on the local hospital’s website, and have your booking-in appointment at around 8 weeks.

Here you telephone the surgery (may be different due to covid, possibly done online now) and book in to see a midwife between 8 and 10 weeks and they do the rest for you.

Congratulations!

Congratulations! Flowers the same thing happened to me with the PCOS and irregular cycles two years ago.

I called my GP and they gave me the details of our community midwife team, who then got in touch to arrange a booking in appointment when I was about 8 weeks. I think now because of Covid that might be done over the phone.

You should then have your first scan at about 12 weeks and regular midwife appointments and scans after that. The appointments are less frequent with your second+ pregnancies than with your first.

Also, start taking folic acid if you're not already, and obviously cut out booze, raw eggs etc.

Thank you everyone Flowers

Right, so I will make a trip to the pharmacy asap and grab the folic acid etc and book with the doctor tomorrow when the bookings are open again (they take the form down at the weekends!).

I am so nervous and excited!!! I keep going over dates in my head though and I am making a total assumption that I am 4 weeks (ish) based on a previous negative test about 6 weeks ago! In reality I have no firm idea.

Here, you speak to the GP and then self refer to the midwife. My periods are all over the place and they go from your last period for your booking appointment but when I spoke to my midwife to explain they’re longer and irregular, she allowed me to book a bit later than I should have because I said it was likely not that far on. I’m 16 weeks and my midwife appointments are in person but it does depend on your trust as not all back to in person. Our area has low cases so that might be why they’re back to in-person appointments. For my scan, they asked when my last period but when I mentioned to my midwife that my cycles were longer than average and my scan was based half on my last period and half on my dates. As it was my dates were slightly off and I was 10 weeks rather than 12 weeks so they got me to come back two weeks later.
