Is it normal to have different pregnancy symptoms in second pregnancy?

Or third, or fourth?

I’m in the first trimester of the my second pregnancy and I feel so different to how I felt with my first I’m starting to get paranoid something’s wrong. I was really sick with my first, but had glowing skin and amazing hair. This time I’m not that sick - a bit nauseous - but I look like roadkill, covered in spots with frizzy limp hair. Last time my boobs were so sore it hurt to get dressed or hug people. This time they’re ok.

Is it normal? Are pregnancies just different?Alternatively could it relate to the sex of the baby? I’ve heard that old wives’ tale about girls stealing your beauty (my first was a boy). If there’s any truth in that then this baby is definitely a girl because I look horrendous 😂

I could have written your post OP and I'm having a girl again! I looked great the first time round with DD, hair and skin etc, but felt like crap with ALL the digestive problems, UTI, etc. This time I feel pretty well and have done all the way so far but I look terrible 🤣 the only think in common both times has been tiredness. I haven't even got the dark line on my belly this time, I'd assumed that would just come back.
I had a horrible birth with DD1 so maybe I'll get the opposite with this one 🤞

Totally normal, my 3 pregnancies were different(and all 3 are boys).

My pregnancies were different, although both boys.
I felt fairly healthy apart from awful morning sickness with #1 and horrendous heartburn with #2.

I breezed through my first (girl) and had absolutely horrendous constant “morning” sickness for the duration with my second (a boy).

Thank you all, that’s so reassuring. I’ve just been so surprised how markedly different I’ve felt/looked in this pregnancy so far.

@8dpwoah so either we look great and feel terrible or we look hideous and feel fine? 😂 Oh well, could be worse I suppose… could feel terrible and look terrible!

My understanding is every pregnancy can be very different but also can confirm that those wives tales are just that, tales.

I felt categorically awful for the first 14/15 weeks, sickness (although not terribly), 24/7 nausea and could have slept for the whole 15 weeks. I lost half a stone in weight. But... I'm now 26w and my hair is so thick and glossy, nails best they have ever been and skin is mostly clear.

I'm expecting a little girl so she's definitely not stolen 'my beauty' - maybe I never had it to begin with Wink The day before my scan my mum told me it has to be a boy as I wasn't physically sick enough but low and behold it's a little lady. Maybe I've just got a cast iron stomach!

I can't speak from experience but try to not compare to last time. See this pregnancy as a totally different experience and hopefully that might reduce your anxiety. Good luck!!

I've been worrying about the same as my first 2 pregnancies were cut and paste (awful nausea and sickness), this time almost 10 years later has been a little too OK in comparison so I've wondered if everything is OK (despite zero signs anything might be wrong). I mentioned this to my midwife and she said apparently younger women can have worse morning sickness that calms down with age - I found that very reassuring!
