Heart shaped uterus

Hello
I’ve just had an early private scan at 10 weeks and been told I have a heart shaped uterus with baby in the right horn. Baby looks well and I have had 2 previous pregnancies both healthy and full term and never knowing I had this before as it was never discussed at other scans etc.
Just wondering if anyone else has had experience of this as now I know I’m freaking myself out and anxiety is creeping in.
Many thanks xx

Hi @Beckburnett I also have a bicornuate uterus, currently 4+3 with our first. Ive read lots of positive stories about women having no issues and having normal pregnancies, natural births etc. Because you've already had 2 healthy pregnancies I think that's brilliant news and shows what your body is capable of.

There are risks associated with heart shaped uteruses like 2nd trimester miscarriages, little space for baby to grow, preterm labour etc BUT they're worst case scenarios. And because you've already had 2 successful healthy pregnancies I think that's a good sign. From what I know you should be eligible for extra monitoring but speak to a medical professional for advice. Hope you're doing okay!

Congrats! My friend has a bicornate uterus and only found out with her 1st MC. I'm very surprised you haven't known till now, but assume you only had scans from 12 weeks on in previous pregnancies, and never had a scan when not pregnant? Otherwise, they are generally focusing on the foetus, and not so much on the uterine shape.

There are varying degrees of it from very mild, to having 2, separate uteri! Generally, and depending on the degree or split, you would have more frequent scans than other pregnancies to monitor things. Are they writing a referral and report to you MW/consultant? What are the next steps they discussed?

Thank you @choccrumpet and @Eleoura for both your comments I really appreciate it. I’m waiting to hear from my MW at the start of next week to see what they advise etc but extra monitoring etc would certainly help with peace of mind. I keep telling myself I went through 2 pregnancies before not even knowing this was an issue so at least having the knowledge now allows me to have the right conversations and ask the right questions - @choccrumpet congratulations on your pregnancy and wishing you all the best wishes for the forthcoming months please keep in touch and @Eleoura thanks for your reply xxx

@Beckburnett- Meant to say that my friend went on to have 2 healthy pregnancies after her MC, and they are teens now!

@Eleoura oh that’s wonderful to hear thanks again it really helps speaking to other women who have experience of the same things

Thank you @Beckburnett it definitely helps hearing about others experiences! Helps put my mind at ease as I haven't gone through that yet myself and obviously it's very easy to focus on the bad things that might happen. Hopefully whoever we deal with is able to support us in the right way. My GP says there's nothing for her to do right now and it'll be up to the midwives, I've heard of women being under consultant care instead of midwives but it probably depends how your uterus affects the baby etc
