6 weeks pregnant - should I have second dose of AZ?

I'm 6 weeks pregnant and had my first dose of AZ in April before I conceived. I'm now not sure if I should go for my second jab which, at the latest (ie to fit within the 12 week window), would be when I am 10 weeks. I've read a lot of messages on MN from women saying that the jab is not safe in the first trimester, but if I wait until the second trimester for my second dose it will have been at least 17 weeks since my first dose so presumably not as effective?

I've spoken to my GP - they were useless and quoted RCOG guidance which basically says it's my choice. I had covid in December so I'm hoping that I still have some natural immunity from this which, combined with the antibodies from the first jab, will give me a high enough level of protection until second trimester.

Anyone else in a similar situation?

I received my first Pfizer dose the day before I got a positive test and I would have gone ahead with it even if I knew I was pregnant (I suspected I was). I'm planning on getting my second dose as soon as I can, even if it means in 1st trimester which it very likely will be. My GP hasn't raised any issues over it and I'm happy to go ahead with it.

I don't know if Astra is different to Pfizer in the advice they give. Personally I'd rather be vaccinated than risk getting covid. But it is your decision and personal to your circumstances.

I’ve posted the same. I was due second AZ jab last week but I’m 5 weeks pregnant.

I’ve decided to wait until after 12 weeks scan to have the second due to baby’s development in the first 12 weeks. Doctor said that was okay.

But, I’m petrified as work in non-safe Covid environments so do I risk getting Covid or risk pregnancy?!

It's so hard isn't it! I feel like pregnant women are being left to make huge decisions on their own, with barely any guidance. If I'd not had the vaccine yet I'd probably be more inclined to get it since I would be offered Pfizer/Moderna and both of these have been proven to be safe in pregnant women in the US. However, there is no data at all about AZ.

@alliser there's another chat that has a lot more insights and feedback that you might find useful if you haven't seen it already

I had my first jab March 17th of AZ. We must have conceived within the fortnight after as I am now 13 + 4 weeks. I had my second jab June 10th, so would have just turned 12 weeks when I had it.

I obviously cannot give medical advice but I spoke to doctors about it and pharmacists and all sorts and got advice from everyone before making my decision! I also know someone who was pregnant when she caught covid and she was VERY poorly and there are now complications with her fetus. I OBVIOUSLY don't know if the two things are related but as far as I was concerned, my decision came down to this...

Would I rather risk getting covid and risking mine and my babies health? Or would I rather risk the unknown side effects to me and my baby?

I had a scan 5 days after my second dose and the little bean looks all good and healthy and due on 20th December :)

It is your decision and whatever you decide is the right decision for you
