Painting furniture when pregnant - wwyd?

Bit of background: I have 2 children and I've had 5 miscarriages. I just found out I was pregnant on Monday and it's v v early days (tested at 9 dpo!)

The last couple of weeks I've been gradually re-painting our old bedroom furniture. I'm about half way through - I've got a chest of drawers and double wardrobe left to do but now I've found out I'm pregnant I'm not sure if I should be continuing?

Google has mixed advice- says a bit of decorating should be fine then on another page says to avoid paint fumes particularly in first trimester?

With my history of miscarriage I don't want to do anything that might be a risk but if there isn't a risk it would be a good project for me to keep my mind occupied in these early weeks.

It obviously isn't in the least bit urgent and just something I was doing to spruce up our room and distract me from TTC tbh!

So, wwyd?

If it makes any difference at all, it's French chic furniture paint, I'd be painting in a large ish bedroom with the window open and I would wear a mask.

I mean if it’s going to make you really paranoid, then I wouldn’t bother, however I think you’ll be fine. I’ve just finished painting our babies nursery this week, and just made sure the room was well ventilated.

You'll be fine esp with a mask on and windows open.
But I think if your going to be worrying maybe give it a miss for now for your own peace of mind.

I think there should be some indication on the paint tin regarding VOC levels. If it is high, I would probably avoid just for peace of mind (although I'm sure you'd be fine in a well-ventilated room, taking regular breaks). I'm planning to do some painting myself this weekend but the tin says it has low levels - I'll still be careful but I think it's alright.

If it's a water-based paint I wouldn't worry about it. We moved house when I was 12 weeks and have near enough painted the whole house, including doing the nursery by myself. The NHS website suggests there's very little risk involved in using modern paints, however if you're anxious maybe wait until after 12 weeks?

Thanks so much for all the replies. The tin says 'no added vocs' and I'm sure it probably would be fine but I've decided to hang on until second trimester (if I make it that far this time).

Thanks again.
