Morning all

I am 18 weeks pregnant and feel so rubbish all the time! I'm nauseous, sick in the night, tired, pain in my hips etc.

I work full time and have a 4 year old. I feel like I can't function. Do you think it is reasonable to ask gp to sign me off for 2 weeks to see if I can get my act together or will they say I'm being a wimp? This pregnancy is very different to my last one.

What do I even say to the gp? Xx

Tell them that - “I'm nauseous, sick in the night, tired, pain in my hips”. You can’t help how you feel and if you feel unwell then ask for some time. Maybe they can do a few blood tests and make sure you aren’t anaemic or anything too. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks @Suzi888. I rang and booked an app this morning as once I wrote on here I felt I needed to speak to someone.
They gave me a telephone consultation and I cried down the phone about how ill I have been feeling. He offered nothing. He said sleep when I can and see how I go. Advised to self cert for a week and see how I am. I cried even more but the app was ended. He called back 20mins later and asked how I was feeling now. I explained I felt the same, nothing has changed since being 8 weeks pregnant and 10 weeks of sickness & tiredness while working full time has broken me. I begged to be signed off. Literally begged and he finally agreed. I have to pick up the note at 3pm but have no idea how long it is for or what is written on it.

I feel like such a fraud but I just feel so unwell xx

Always seem to have to fight for these thingsSad I’m sorry you had to go through that (seems to be the only way sometimes! lay it on thick, be firm).
Can always ask for it be extended, don’t worry about what has been written on it/how long it’s for yet. Just concentrate on having a good rest for now. Cake Your health is the most important.

No shame in asking to be signed off, pregnancy is different for everyone and I’ve had really difficult ones due to sickness and I’ve been upfront with the GP if I’m unable to continue working because of it. Don’t suffer in silence x

Sorry just read your update - that doesn’t sound good, your GP shouldn’t be challenging how you feel. If you’re ill you’re ill. Nobody knows your body better than you. Sad to hear you had to really fight for it x

Take some time now but be prepared to feel better; Niall 3 pregnancies I felt shocking weeks 6-20, then good again until about week 34

I was signed off at 18 weeks, I had SI dysfunction and literally couldn't travel to work.

DTs were born at 31 and we had other complications so I'm really glad I was signed off, I don't think I was built to carry babies.
