Colostrum harvesting - Syringe air bubbles

Hi
I had a go at colostrum harvesting this evening and was lucky enough to produce colostrum. I collected it into a sterilised spoon and than sucked it into a syringe.

When I did this I had a lot of air bubbles … is this safe or do I need to get rid of them? Would be so helpful to know before having a second attempt tomorrow!!!

Thank you!
Charlotte

Well done for doing it...can be so time consuming! I was a lot more dedicated 3rd time around and my milk came in a lot quicker than my first 2, I had 3 c sections. Maybe it was the fact it was my third but I felt it made a difference!

For my first DD I was in NICU and they never mentioned air bubbles. When you've drawn in the colostrum hold the syringe upside down and pull the central part (don't know the terminology!) right out, then slowly push back in until the colostrum is nearly at the tip of the syringe. You can also gently tap the side to disperse the bubbles/gaps. It tends to be more liquid once frozen anyway and you shake it once thawed. Pop it back in the syringe packaging and and then into a freezer bag.
