My DD is 2 months old.
Before i gave birth DH said he wanted babies close together and I was saying no way. After he experienced the crazy newborn stage (still ongoing), he is now saying he is happy with her and not thinking of another one for now and i am now starting to think I'd like to have my babies close in age.

Even if i did convince him we would not start trying until end of this year as i am still EBF.

Am i crazy?

What are your experiences with second pregnancy/baby?

@SillyBry
Agree childcare is an issue, but you get quite a bit of support when your DC are 3. Officially 15 hours a week, or 30 if you are in work. Yes, that's a school week, so more like 10 and 20 hours over 52 weeks, but still makes a huge difference to costs.

A cousin conceived her 2nd about 3 months PP - life was a bit hectic but OK as far as I can tell. She was very young and also very fit though, which probably helped her manage, and she has had a third since.

@LewishamMum agreed. Hence our decision to wait until my daughter was 3. (It actually comes the term after they turn 3, so she was 3.5 by the time she got any free hours.)
As I say, Covid and some other issues delayed us longer than anticipated. (Drs wouldn’t remove my implant as not a necessary procedure during Covid... and then I had an ectopic, resulting in surgery and set a recovery time before we could try again.)
But actually, I think our age gap will work fine. (It’ll have to... I can’t change it 🤣)
I think whatever you end up with, you make it work and there are pros and cons to them all. But I just make the point that I knew full well we couldn’t afford 2 children under the age of 3 due to the childcare costs. (We are equal earners, so both of us really do need to work to pay everything.)

@SillyBry
Oh sorry to hear about all that. I agree things probably have a way of just working out and there are pros and cons to both.
I didn't know it was term after 3, although as my DDs born in December doesn't make much difference to me.

SillyBry · 16/06/2021 12:12

@LewishamMum No, i only realised when I had to wait until September for my hours for my April baby! But it is SUPER helpful and makes the difference to the monthly bill for sure!

@SillyBry
System is totally unfair. My DD will get it 3 weeks after she turns 3. Others (like yourself) are basically waiting until 5 months after. Can't believe this hasn't been challenged in some way. Basically bc of summer holidays those who are summer born and would probably benefit more get a double whammy. Totally wrong IMO.

So spoke to my husband about how i felt and we agreed we shouldn't make any decision now. He wants to be out of the craze of newborn stage and sleep deprivation before discussing having a second.
And might wait until DD is 3 or 4 even.
I am not working at present, just a stay at home mum so no nursery fees for now.

Thanks everyone for replying! It was actually very helpful 🙂
