So low of energy, any tips?

Hi :) I'm 14 weeks pregnant and consistently so exhausted. I also have toddler DD and work full time so I really need a pick me up.
90% of time I work from home so desperately want to keep on top of things like keeping the house clean but just cannot find the energy.
Due to early shift pattern this week I had a whole hour before DD return to do some stuff round the house and managed to burn that by sitting on the sofa.
She's now asleep so another opportunity and I just CBA.
Anyone have any energy tips? Anything that naturally boosts energy? Something? Sad
Ps before anyone asks my DP helps where he can but he works late and it's build up from the night before/ morning that gets worse if I leave it.

Are you managing to eat much? If not then snacking on something through the day might help?

PurpleyBlue · 15/06/2021 22:57

And I'd just rest if your body is telling you to

Br3style · 15/06/2021 23:02

@PurpleyBlue Thank you for replying.
Tbh, my eating schedule is bad.
I get so hungry then am to full for the regular times.
Any good snack suggestions?
Eat little and often as they say

Walking or getting some gentle exercise, if you physically can, often helps.

If you physically can't - get your iron levels checked. I had to take time off work at that stage of my second pregnancy and could barely walk from exhaustion. I was anaemic.

I nibble on a lot oat cakes as I had bad morning sickness. And bananas are good. You can always ring the midwife if you get concerned too.

Br3style · 15/06/2021 23:10

@PurpleyBlue Noted those down. Thank you. Yes I had bad morning sickness. Starting to die down a bit now but another reason why eating was difficult.

@BuffySummersReportingforSanity Thank you, that's a good idea to check out!

I used to take Floradix multivitamin with iron liquid formula. it tastes nice.
or if you want there's a tablets version

but the thing is building a human is exhausting, especially when you have other kids.
lowering expectations & hitting the fuck it button often helps.
I won't bore you with tales of woe but honestly it's easier to call it a day and say you are now in survival mode, because that gives you an excuse to take it easier and not to sweat the small stuff or feel guilty about anything.

best of luck

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba
Thank you I've added that to my list as well.
You're right, I do need to give myself a bit of break. Just hard to do sometimes

Ginger tea might help with the sickness. But I agree with PP, it might be that all you can manage right now is getting through each day and the cleaning will have to wait. Hopefully at other stages you might have more energy to do things but right now just focus on what your body is saying it needs.

No tips - just here to tell you not to worry. I was the exact same at 14 weeks and it really bothered me because i thought "I should be well out of the dreaded first trimester now" but it did pass and energy came back! So just rest now when you need it and try to ignore all the things that needs done - or better yet - get your partner to do them!

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 16/06/2021 12:18

Definitely get your iron checked out with a blood test. I put up with it for about 6 weeks, assuming it was just "pregnancy tiredness", but as soon as I started taking the tablets I felt so much better!

Blueballinthegarden · 16/06/2021 12:27

As all PP’s have commented but also being told that ‘this way madness lies’ if you try to do everything when growing a human and raising a toddler. It’s ok to let a few things slide here and there, as long as the basics are covered! Without knowing where you are, it’s bloody hot here (SE England) which is also draining!

BiBabbles · 16/06/2021 12:42

I recommend getting a full nutrition blood panel if possible, iron is really important and is usually checked as standard at some point, but being low in other areas like certain B vitamins or Vitamin D can also have a big effect and is more common in subsequent pregnancies.

That and alongside gentle physical activities and finding what you can stomach to eat can help - you can powdered vitamin mixes (Meritene is in some chemists) that flavour milk which can boost both the vitamins and minerals and calories in a way that some find gentler to stomach.

@Blueballinthegarden.

31°C in Surrey.
kids currently cooling on icelollies and if anyone isn't happy with cereal & cold milk with ice for dinner they can help themselves coz I ain't cooking!

3.5 hrs A&E on Monday with DS4, 2 hours walk-in centre with DS6 plus a birthday party yesterday so I'm hanging by a thread.
if I was pg I'd put the bar so low in this heat that I could slide over it🤣
(well, in fact I had 3 July babies so I had done that!🤣)

I’m Surrey/Hampshire, didn’t realise it ended up that hot but explains many things!
DD has had fridge surprise for dinner, I’m 31 weeks pregnant so spent considerable time with my feet in the paddling pool and giving the occasional parental guidance of ‘don’t cut your hair with scissors’ and ‘please don’t eat mud.’

Blimey you’ve had a fun few days 😰

Br3style · 16/06/2021 19:03

@Blueballinthegarden 31 weeks and in this heat! Applause to you!
It's 27 here and I can't cope. Walked to the local shop for some dinner bits and thought I was going to make it back lol

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba I love the cereal with cold milk!
I've gone for super easy veg burgers tonight.
Trooper for Monday! Hope all is well

Thanks all, I'm going to get iron supplements regardless of Iron test as GP can be a bit rubbish with appts but will try Grin
To help me with lack of energy I've now developed sore throat and rough cough but negative for Covid thankfully
