Covis Vaccine in pregnancy

Hi all, apologies in advance if this topic has already been addressed. First time poster here. I'm currently 29/40 pregnant. Fit and healthy. I have asthma but this is very well controlled. Healthy pregnancy, only concern is low lying placenta. Previous PPH so under an Obstetrician but I don't see her for another few weeks yet. I'd be very grateful to hear from any medics out there (doctors... Midwives etc) regarding getting the covid vaccine. I understand the guidence has changed and the vaccine is now being recommended. I've been undecided and was hoping to wait until my baby is born before having the vaccine but as the rates are increasing, particularly with the Delta Variant, I'm now becoming increasingly anxious about whether I should arrange to have the vaccine while pregnant. I spoke to my Midwife but unfortunately she was unable to offer any advice (said she was unsure of the evidence herself 🤷‍♀️) so I have been doing my own research via the RCOG. I'd love to hear about other people's experiences, and particularly any medically trained professionals who can shed some advice. Many thanks x

I've had the first dose at 28 weeks, second dose booked for 3 weeks time. Glad I had it.

Look at all the information on "pregnant then screwed" Instagram and website. There's also a brilliant webinar on Stella creasys Facebook page which includes information from medical specialists, most importantly a scientist who specialises in vaccines in pregnancy. That's what made my mind up.

Congrats on your pregnancy X

I'm literally sat in the vaccination centre after just having had mine at 7+3. I'm not medical in the slightest but I am in an area of really high rate of infection and weighed up the pros and cons as well as I was able with the information available.

Have you seen the pregnant then screwed webinar with Stella Creasey? It's on YouTube and a good place to start.

I had my first dose back in April and second dose in May. They were at 22 and 26 weeks pregnant. I’m now almost 32 weeks and no issues at all, feel so relieved to have it and means I’m not anxious going to hospital appointments etc.

MintGreenLife · 15/06/2021 11:00

@India999 @BabyC21 am I right in saying you're not in the UK? I had my first dose at 29 weeks and having a nightmare trying to organise my second. Now 33 weeks and the only option is either one week before my due date or one week after, both at a vaccination centre 40 miles away. Don't want to be doing that journey at 39 weeks pregnant and risk feeling unwell from 2nd dose so close to due date, but also don't want to make that journey with a newborn either! Being told I can't have it any earlier.

BabyC21 · 15/06/2021 11:33

@MintGreenLife yes I’m in Ireland so we space Pfizer and Moderna doses 4 weeks apart only Astra Zeneca has a bigger interval. I do know that the manufacturers guidance from both Pfizer and Moderna is something like 3-6 weeks gap, might be worth speaking with your gp to see if they can sort it earlier. I think you have very valid reason :)

MintGreenLife · 15/06/2021 11:50

@BabyC21 I may try that, although I've been told by the receptionist at the GP surgery that they don't have insurance to offer the jabs any earlier than 8 weeks apart, so most likely not possible. So frustrating! x

BabyC21 · 15/06/2021 11:56

@MintGreenLife I don’t know what the guidance is in the UK but in Ireland you can’t have it past 36 weeks as it can cause a fever which can affect labour. I’d definitely press your gp to arrange it for you before 36 weeks

MintGreenLife · 15/06/2021 12:18

@BabyC21 ah interesting! See that was my worry anyway, so ridiculous! Will see what I can do. Thanks for your advice x

I just had my first dose today at exactly 39 weeks.

I had AZ vaccine 1 in March and got pregnant 2 months later. I had my second dose @ 2 weeks. I was anxious but I saw the heartbeat on Friday and baby is all perfect. The risks of catching outweighed anything for me. I also didn’t have many side affects after which is a plus. The thought of catching covid petrifies me so I am glad I got it done. Grace Victory has been in my head ever since she got very poorly from covid when pregnant. She has come out the other side but it was so close to noT going in her favour x

I'm 12w3 and have my first vaccine on Saturday (day after 12 week scan) and second booked for first week in September.
