Reduced movements at 26 weeks?

So I’m 26 weeks tomorrow and have an anterior placenta.

But even with that I started feeling the baby fairly early and then pretty strong kicks since 20 weeks. My partner was even able to feel him from outside for the first time at 20 weeks.

The pattern of movements for the last few weeks has been the same. He’s usually super active in the mornings when I wake up, like some big kicks, then throughout the day, even when I’m at work I will feel him almost hourly, then he gets really active again in the evenings when I sit down to relax.

However yesterday and today he’s been super quiet. No noticeable kicks in the mornings, nothing in the evenings to really note, and just the odd faint bubble/popping type kick at random points in the day.

I don’t know whether at 26 weeks and with an anterior placenta, it warrants a call to MAU or not. A lot of what I find online suggests they aren’t too worried until you’re 28 weeks or more.

I’ve never gone in for reduced movements before, I just feel like they’d think I was being ott.

Always go in.

It's almost definitely fine.

But always go in (source: my MW when I was pregnant with DD).

Call them OP. Put your mind at ease. I know maternity staff would rather see the worried well than otherwise.

better to be seen and not needed than not seen and needed. Just ring.

Beehappy21 · 13/06/2021 17:53

If in doubt, get checked out! Remember this is what they are there for... they will completely understand and your mind will be put at rest xx

Thank you all, it’s what I thought, but suddenly i find myself super nervous at making the call!

This is my fourth baby so you wouldn’t think anything would phase me, but like I said I’ve never been in for reduced movements before, not with any previous pregnancy. I suppose it’s the fear of being made to feel silly or like they see me as one of “those” ott people.

Thank you though. Will make the call. I agree, I’d rather be checked out and be told everything is fine, than leave it and have something happen.

Hope you’re ok, OP. In my experience I was never made to feel like I was being overly anxious - I was hooked up to the monitor for about 20 minutes each time and then home when all was well. Best wishes to you and baby.

Moominmiss · 13/06/2021 20:47

Thank you! I spoke to them earlier and they told me to come in as soon as I could. I’ve just got here after getting my other children to bed etc so 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Let us know how you get on op. I'm sure all is well xx

I think you've done the right thing!

This happened to me at 26 weeks and I've got an anterior placenta also. I wasn't sure if I was being silly but the midwife I saw said that I was right to come in. I got to hear my baby's heartbeat and it definitely gave me relief!

Moominmiss · 13/06/2021 22:07

I’ve just got home. Everything was fine. They checked urine and blood pressure, both good.

Then finally had a good listen in. Almost instantly he did a kick like he was trying to kick away the probe lol. But she picked up his heartbeat really clear and strong. She said she could pick up a few movements which I hadn’t felt, so she thinks he’s just moved into a position which means my placenta is cushioning more of the movements than it previously had been. Plus she did say the heat can really affect things.

But she did say I’d absolutely done the right thing by going in, and even if the same thing happens again tomorrow, they’d rather see me than not.

So all in all super glad I called!

That’s great news OP! Good to hear that all is well and that the midwife was reassuring and kind. I was pregnant with my second baby last year and really struggled in the heat. Practically moved into a paddling pool for the third trimester! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy 🤰🏻

Beehappy21 · 14/06/2021 08:04

Yay! Great news 😁😁 xx

tigerbread20 · 14/06/2021 11:26

You definitely did the right thing.

I'm 27 weeks now but last week I had a definite change in movement over a day and a bit but put off calling as I felt silly being so early. I finally called and went in and a quick check in on baby ending up being 2 hours on the ctg and still not meeting criteria. I hate to think the outcome had I not gone in. You know your body and baby best!

Moominmiss · 14/06/2021 11:29

Oh wow, @tigerbread20 I’m so glad you did go in and get checked. Stories like yours just prove the need to check anything that’s unusual for you.

Like you I just felt a bit ott and silly being so early, but in hindsight I’m so glad I went in, and they couldn’t have been lovelier about it all.

I hope I don’t have to go in again but I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to call in future!

Hi, I’m in the exact same position now and have been checked my the midwives etc, just wondering how long did it take for your kicks to start getting stronger again?
