Has anyone ever not had to stay the night after a c section?

My c section is on Wednesday morning, I'm panicking about having to stay the night (which might sound ridiculous) I did want to get a private room but still not sure if it's possible. Has anyone ever gone home the same day after having one? X

How many weeks are you now op? If you'll be 40 weeks next week when they're suggesting I wouldn't be happy - they'll be hoping you go into labour. I had an ELCS at 39+5 and thought that was pushing it a bit in terms of chances of going into labour pre op.

Sorry not to come back to this thread earlier, OP. PALS can act immediately - they can contact ward managers, senior staff etc. if they hear of a situation that needs resolving. They're not just for resolving issues after the fact.

You'll be fine OP. My first night away from my 16 month old was after having a section with DC2! He was fine without me!

DC2 was an elective section and was my first section experience- it was far, far better than my traumatic vaginal first birth. Having said that, I did stay two nights on the postnatal ward- there was no way I would have been able to go home the day after- and my section was at 9am!

They came to take me to theatre at 1.50pm and baby was delivered at 2.52pm, I was so convinced that they were about to cancel it, was starving & felt so weak by then
The epidural & drip wasn't pleasant, but once that was done getting baby out was super quick, abit uncomfortable with the pulling sensation. Had all the side effects from the drugs but I think that was probably due to not eating for so long
They removed my Fallopian tube (the mass was still there) and it's getting tested. That part was the most uncomfortable. If it has been a straight forward c section I was surprised how quick it was! All the staff in theatre were great
Feeling much better now and glad it's over, minus the needles the actual procedure it's self wasn't as bad as I thought
And definitely staying the night, I know I need to! Hopefully can go home tomorrow

It's major abdominal surgery. You'll have a catheter in for at least some of the time and in a lot of pain. Yes you'll have to stay in.

Also - your baby might require extra care or monitoring. Even if you were well enough to go what if he / she isn't??

Congratulations OP, you stayed in my thoughts yesterday too, I'm so sorry for the bad experience you had prior to surgery.

So glad you and baby are doing well.

I think it would be negligent for them to let you go home the same day. It's major abdominal surgery and there can be complications that they need to monitor you for, you will need pain relief, to eat and drink, to pass urine properly, to be able to mobilise and your csection scar will need to be checked. I loathe staying overnight in hospital and would much rather be at home but you have children that you need to be healthy for. If you were at home and had complications, you could become very unwell very quickly, so try and just see it as having to stay in to make sure your healthy enough to go home to your children.

Thank you very much, it's actually true that I'm in the best place to be if I have any problems. Luckily baby is fine, I was fine until the pain kicked in this morning. Due to be discharged in the next few hours :) yes it wasn't a great experience to start, however the post natal ward hasn't been too bad apart from people taking phone calls at 4am

Thank you all again, there's actually no way I would have felt able to go home the same day, if it wasn't for the noise (therefore no sleep) I wouldn't have actually minded staying 1 more night (in a private room I guess) I felt ok until the pain kicked in, yesterday I felt terrible but much better today just taking ibuprofen
Whoever said they were in b&m within 24 hours after c section that is crazy I wouldn't even want to
But today I do feel much better than I thought I would
I also didn't get given blood thinning injections, even though I had 2 risk factors ( c section & extra blood loss) I gave birth out of area but if I had at the hospital here my community midwife says I would have definitely been given them!
