Increased movement

31 weeks and out of nowhere baby has been moving A LOT!

Is this something to worry about, or only reduced movements?

There's no advice online like there is for reduced movements ie drink a cold drink

Any change in movements should be checked.

AngelDelightUk · 13/06/2021 12:54

Not to worry you but it can be. I’ve heard more than one story about how the baby was in distress and moving more.

It’s probably nothing but go and get looked at

Moonshine11 · 13/06/2021 12:55

Any change op you need a check!

PixieDust28 · 13/06/2021 12:59

Agree, any different movements need to be checked. Phone them up and have a little check x

LegoVsFoot · 13/06/2021 13:01

Thanks all, just called the hospital and they said they're only concerned with reduced movement and not to come in...not sure whether to be relieved or nervous?!

Hard one as I’ve always been told any change.

I gave birth a month ago. I have been many times for reduced movements and there were days when my baby was moving like crazy and i have asked consultant, midwifes, gp and gynecologist. Increased movements are never sign of distress or bad. It always good sign. But if still you are worried give a call to DAU or triage and put your mind at peace.

That is very untrue and very bad advice. Increased fetal movement can be cord complications or abrupt or placental abruption just to name a couple!
PixieDust28 · 13/06/2021 23:52

I didn't mean to put 'or abrupt'.

BabyC21 · 14/06/2021 08:03

I think it’s any change in movement, however movements constantly increase until 32 weeks when they then should stay at a steady level (not reduce), so id say it’s a combination of baby putting on lots of weight now so you feel them much more and that they are just very busy. I’m 31 & 3, and the past 2 weeks baby has been an acrobat in there, except for one day where he had reduced movements but turns out he was just asleep! I was in getting checked yesterday for something else and they said babies movements were great

Coxobaby · 14/06/2021 16:32

@PixieDust28 well i asked them this and this is not true. There is so much rubbish on internet regarding hiccup and increased movements.

JewelGarden · 14/06/2021 16:36

Proper advice is that increased movements are a problem, having said that my baby has had a few episodes of increased movements (I believe this has been related to baby changing position) and I haven't worried as long as they go back to normal after and they have. If the midwives won't see you make sure you keep an eye that movements continue at a normal pace and don't slow down or stop later this evening or tomorrow and obviously ring them back if they do.

LegoVsFoot · 14/06/2021 16:45

@JewelGarden thank you, movements did return to normal levels so feeling better about it. I did get a bit worried reading online about sudden increased movements so will keep an eye but everything seems to have gone back to normal.

Thanks everyone x
