Pelvic Girdle Pain

I was wondering if anyone has any tips or advice for pelvic girdle pain. I’m only 17 weeks pregnant but I am in so much pain. I’m shuffling around, paracetamol really has no effect at all. I have hyperemesis so I am still sick a lot which doesn’t help either kneeling down to vomit lots.

Thanks in advance

Well, most advice is to limit range of motion and avoid things which agravate it.
Shortening your stride when walking. Keeping legs together to get in/out of bed/car. Take stairs one at a time, lead with least painful side and bring other to meet it on each step. Hot water bottle can help with the pain.

This is my 4th pregnancy with it, I've gone against some advice this time. I've been powerlifting for almost 4 years now and continued it in this pregnancy. Still doing barbell squats (though down to 50% now) which are discouraged by most online, I declined a physio referral as I knew they'd say I was doing something wrong but training makes mine feel better. I've not used painkillers at all yet and now over 30wk, I also have osteoarthritis so am used to joint pain on a daily basis anyway and don't like to be reliant on painkillers.

As PP says, it's mostly about limiting your range of motion, trying to keep everything aligned etc. Bed was one of the worst things for me, but you can ease things a little by using pillows to keep your legs parallel.

Lots of advice online, all I would add to that is to still be cautious even when you have a good day. You'll only suffer the next day if you over do it!

Get yourself referred to physio as well (this might be via your midwife or you may be able to self refer, just depends what the set up is in your area, but your midwife will know how to access it even if it's not via them). Don't worry about physio referral times being long, they're normally quicker for pregnancy issues, for obvious reasons!
