Me and my fiance are really not keen on grobags but my auntie/mum etc keep going on about how much safer/better etc they are.
Are we being stupid not to get one??

I swore by them with dd and i've bought some for LO due next month. Its totally up to you though. What is it that your not keen on?

SHEENA1 · 20/11/2007 15:02

Hi there I had a few for my little girl although they kept her covered at night i found she was gettiin quite ajitated in them (felt trapped ) and also found she was gettin hot alot so i stopped using them

my friends swear by them but i disagree

its up to u as parents maybe u could give it a go n see what you think

hope this kinda helps

malfoy · 20/11/2007 15:03

they are a genius invention. I think they are wonderful.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 20/11/2007 15:04

yes grobags are good.
the only annoying thing is that you have to buy quite a few over the years so they do work out much pricier than blankets and sheets.

sparklyjen · 20/11/2007 15:04

Baby sleeping bags are fab, I can't believe I waited so long to get some. Knowing that baby is wrapped up warm and can't kick the covers off is great and you can pick them up and tranfer etc. without them getting cold.
I recall being told at antenatal classes that they're not best for newborns though?

sparklyjen · 20/11/2007 15:05

Oh and they're expensive so have a look on ebay for second hand ones!

JoanWilder · 20/11/2007 15:05

Ive used them from the minute dd was 10lbs... swear by them.they help so much
with night feeds
sleeping in the travel cot
keeping constant temp, not kicking off blankets
quick to wash and dry
pricey but only as bad as sheets/blankets etc
cheaper on ebay sometimes (only would buy a new one, tho)

DD loved one, DS hated

lailasmum · 20/11/2007 15:09

My dd didn't get on with gro bags, she is extremely active when she sleeps so they tented to twist around her body and dig into the side of her neck so we use fleecy all in one suits instead. They give the same level of warmth but are a bit safer for her especially when she wanted to get up and wander around when she wakes up. You can get cotton ones too. I tended to either make them or buy them from Donnan as they do nice ones made to order.

micegg · 20/11/2007 15:16

I only used them when DD was very young (under 6 months). Once she was able to crawl she found them very restrictive. I think they are good if you have a baby who kicks their blankets off. DD is now 2 and I put her in those all in one rumper suit PJs made out of the warm fleecey material. She does tend to keep her duvet on her now but its just in case really.

Anarchymummy · 20/11/2007 15:20

Thanks guys,I think we'll get one and see how she finds it/use it for the travel cot etc :D

I have used them on both my boys - and have passed them down so are v good value for money if you have more than one

First bought one as a 'test' when DS1 kept waking up in the night repeatedly. Turned out he was cold and the problem was solved immediately.

DS2 is a tricky customer and has a 'cob' if he gets too tangled and did resist them at first but I persevered and he was fine.

I think they are one of the best buys for babies.

dressedupnowheretogotilxmas · 20/11/2007 15:27

my dd loved em she never slept thru but she was never cold either

i think they are fab tbh and wouldnt hesitate to use them again

Meeely2 · 20/11/2007 15:32

we thought they were fab for our wriggly twins - we only bought 6 throughout their cot days and they are now 3 and in beds and therefore duvets.

recommend this site for multiple buy bargains

LittleMissLate · 21/11/2007 09:20

We think they are fantastic - we got all ours at NCT nearly new sales. Dd is very wriggly and would kick off covers constantly - she is getting more wriggly as she gets older and moves all round the cot overnight (but sleeps through )

Orchide · 21/11/2007 09:31

We swaddld our DD for the first few weeks....6-10ish 9 that i cant remember!] but found as she became more wriggly that she would wake in the night with uncovered and cold. We move onto grobags and have not loked back....they are fab V. cosy, warm, easy to wash, easy to move sleeping baby......would def. def. recommend.

Any chance of you borrowing one from someone and havign a go?

Travel grobags are even better - they have a small zip on the back so you can strap the baby into the pushchair or carseat still in its grobag. Great for dinner out or holidays (esp camping at festivals.)

Meeely2 · 22/11/2007 20:24

hey thanks komfi! didn't realise you posted on here - you did me a cracking deal on sleeping bags i am still using, so thanks! Some extra thumbs up here to get you all to go shop!

Kerri28 · 22/11/2007 22:22

i used blankets/sheets when dd was first born, but when she got to 3/4 weeks she refused to settle on her back (later found out she has slight reflux) and will only sleep on tummy. grobag is wonderful. i know she won't overheat as good duidelines to what baby should wear, she can move and wriggle without covers coming off and it makes night feeds very easy as baby stays lovely and warm. having said that, its completely a personal choice, why not try both and see what baby prefers? good luck
