Hi all. Does anyone have any experience of being on Clexane? My consultant sprung it on me this week that I would need daily Clexane injections from 28 weeks until 6 weeks after birth. I'm already on aspirin and getting loads of nosebleeds and bleeding more than usual when having blood tests etc so don't really want to be taking more blood thinners. Also hate the idea of having to inject every day for so long and into a pregnant belly. I had IVF so got used to the injections but thought I'd left them behind!

Hi I'm on clexane aswell from 28 weeks and have been on aspirin from 12 weeks, I did have nose bleeds but they haven't got any worse on the clexane. They are a bit stingy and some leave bruises, but there honestly not so bad I'm 34 weeks now. The only think is ive been told if I think I'm in labour don't take that days injection unless I've been told I'm definitely not in labour.

I was on it from 12 weeks with my last pregnancy. I was dreading it but just became part of my evening routine. The most annoying part was getting them! I had to get a prescription from a consultant at the hospital every 4 weeks and then go to the hospital pharmacy (no other pharmacy!) and wait around for at least 40 mins.

Yes I was on it in my last pregnancy for the first 10 weeks due to OHSS (twin IVF pregnancy), and then again from 28 weeks until 6 weeks PP. Injecting into a twin pregnant belly wasn't much fun and my bump was black and blue. I was also on aspirin and was told to stop both at 36 weeks in preparation for delivery. Unfortunately I suffered a complete placental abruption of twin 1 at 34 weeks so was still on both at the time and suffered a huge (4.2 litre) blood loss. I had to have a transfusion and as a result now have anti c antibodies which are causing serious problems in my current pregnancy. I am not a fan of clexane....

Thank you for your replies and @SamoyedFan123 I'm sorry to hear of what you've been through. Mine is also a twin IVF pregnancy which I understand gives me more risk but I think I just assumed I would be on the injections only after the C section, not from so early on and not having to inject into a pregnant belly. I'm going to question the decision again when I see the consultant tomorrow so I can understand fully the risks vs benefits.

Hi @MF1981. You can inject into your thighs. I felt the same and swopped from my belly once my bump got bigger and harder as just couldn’t think about doing it - plus it was harder to grab but was able to grab my thighs and inject there.

Ah that’s helpful to know thanks @1ce1cebaby

I also did my thighs and bum as I’m quite slim and found it hard to pinch enough on my belly even when not obviously pregnant. Found it hurt a lot less than into my tummy aswell
