Hi all,

What’s everyone’s thoughts on getting the COVID jab during pregnancy?

I really want to be protected but so scared we will be the first set of women to have it after the USA trials & the lack of trials scares me.

Any thoughts advice ? Such a hard decision

I had my first at 28 weeks, my second is just before my due date.
I had a headache that evening, and a sore arm the next day, but baby movements were normal, and they're doing fine.

I decided to get it, based on the known risk of covid 19 in 3rd trimester pregnancy. It can have some really scary consequences for both mum and baby.

The vaccine itself breaks down very quickly after your jab, and is too big to pass through the placenta. Baby only gets the antibodies, which are like every other bug you've had.

There's a group on Facebook that was super helpful for me when making my decision, and reading the science:

Covid 19 Vaccine-Evidence Based Group: Pregnancy, Lactation, TTC, & Children

Thank you!
I will certainly check out that group x

I am hesitant about this too! I am just under 7 weeks and am 25 so have just been called up for mine. I know I definitely don't want it until I am least in the 2nd trimester as baby development is so important in 1st trimester!

I am so on the fence about whether to get it in 2nd trimester, or to wait completely until baby is here. - I have the opportunity to work from home and work are flexible so could technically shield in 3rd trimester if I want to. I haven't seen enough evidence on risks to unborn babies, to make an informed decision yet!

I am definitely getting it regardless, but just unsure as to when!

After much reading and reassurance from the mid-wife, I have booked in to have mine tomorrow. I am 10 weeks.

I got the Pfizer vaccine on Wednesday, on Thursday I had my BFP. I'm glad I got it, the benefits outweighed the risks for me. I suspected I was pregnant getting the vaccine but it wasn't confirmed at that point. I had a sore arm, nausea and a bit of chills/sweats although my temperature stayed down but everything has gone away 2 days later.

Had my first Pzifer dose at 14+5

Just had my first jab this week (Pfizer) at 34+3, everything I've read leans on the side of getting it and the thought of being wiped out with covid with a newborn was worrying me, never mind the risks in 3rd trimester. Only side effect I had was a very slightly sore arm, not even as bad as when I had the flu jab.

Having my jab next week at 7+3. Dh works in public transport (public facing), I have a DC in school and were in GM, so cases rising rapidly.

The evidence I've read suggests it's safe in the first trimester, and through the baby loss groups I'm in, I am aware of women whose babies have died in utero after they've had covid.

Got my Pfizer yesterday. Am 5 weeks. Lots of pregnant woman have had it in the US, and I did my research; so I felt happy to go ahead.

Clarkey86 · 11/06/2021 18:37

I had it at about 8 weeks, and now the cases are flying up again I’m really glad I did.

I had my first vaccine in Jan, a few days before I conceived (NHs clinician). I'm 24 weeks now but choosing to wait until after I have the baby for my second dose.

Wondering2021 · 12/06/2021 08:30

Thanks everyone for your messages it’s very reassuring to hear so many people are going for it

Same as this really, only I’m not a clinician and I’m slightly behind at 19 weeks.

I was against getting it until after baby is born but have just booked mine for when I'm 26 weeks. Did lots of research to support my decision and found the Pregnant then Screwed webinar with Stella Creasy very helpful as has lots of UK experts in different fields talking about it in an honest way. Made me realise that my worries about getting it were not evidenced in any way whereas there are clear documented risks for getting Covid in 3rd trimester.

I would really recommend anyone who isn't sure to watch it x
