Did you have any side effects?

What made you vaccinate?
Or why not do it?

Just looking for other people's thoughts as i really don't know if i should do it 😒

I did. Got the Moderna vaccine and breastfeeding my 9 month old 3 weeks ago.

No major side effect for me other than a sore arm.

No discernible side effects on DD.

SunnySideUp2020 · 10/06/2021 09:21

My DD is 8 weeks... don't know if it's too early! She also has cmpa 😑
Wondering if it's a bit risky to do it now

I did 4 weeks ago. Got Pfizer. My son is 18mo and also has CMPA (and several other food allergies). I had no side effects at all. DS had a snotty nose and mild cough for 2 weeks after but this could have been a coincidence as he was also cutting his molar teeth.

Em4815 · 10/06/2021 09:29

I was vaccinated with Pfizer a couple of weeks ago when DS was one week old. Absolutely fine, no side effects and nothing I noticed that affected him. Banking on passing on all those antibodies to him while feeding!

glasshalfemptyneverfull · 10/06/2021 09:29

I had first Astra Zeneca 10 weeks ago, felt tired and almost hungover for 24 hours.
Second dose 2 days ago, no side effects for me but 4 month old has now started with a runny nose and slight cough. She's fine otherwise though and feeding ok.

FlappityFlippers1 · 10/06/2021 09:31

I had Pfizer 2 weeks ago and my 11 week old is bf - I didn’t have any side effects and didn’t notice any in baby. Also hoping to have passed some benefit on

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 10/06/2021 09:36

No I won’t- we don’t know the long term affects on children, don’t care what all the liberal MNetters say

Muststopeating · 10/06/2021 09:41

I am planning to so watching with interest.

I was supposed to have my first one yesterday but since I have only 5 weeks left of my pregnancy I've postponed it to afterwards. I realise this is probably OTT and I will absolutely kick myself if I get COVID but actually not sure they would have done it anyway as I have a cracking cough that I can't shift and could really do with not feeling any worse than I currently do.

Hope to do it quite soon after giving birth though and as with PP hoping it then gives the baby the antibodies (though I guess that would have been more effective if I'd had it when pregnant).

I should add that although I get flu and whooping cough vaccines when pregnant (this is number 3) I have never taken so much as a paracetamol or gaviscon (despite really really needing them).

I had my first dose (Pfizer) when DD was 12 weeks old and the second when she was 5 months. All fine, no issues. I did have sore lymph nodes in my armpits after both doses (I had a really sore neck from inflamed lymph nodes and a red/sore throat for about two months after my first dose but can’t be sure it was directly related or if I also had a virus) but no fever or feeling particularly unwell. Baby had no issues. She was fussy the evening after my first dose and didn’t want to feed but on reflection, I’d had a lot of asparagus and I think my milk was probably just a bit weird tasting 😂

The evidence all suggests that it is completely safe and it does look like you may pass on some immunity through breast milk so it was a no brainier for me (plus I’m NHS staff and wanted to be fully vaccinated before going back to work).

Has anyone had the vaccine and breastfeeding a 7 week old?

HopeValley · 03/07/2021 13:11

My baby was about 10 weeks I think when I had mine but everyone I know with a baby under 6m has had it at some point, sometimes with a few week old baby, and I'm not aware anyone had any problems. I couldn't bear the thought of feeling awful with covid whilst trying to look after a baby and toddler.

Ohmyzebra · 03/07/2021 13:16

I had the Pfizer at the beginning of this year and am breastfeeding. No side effects.
I read up and I feel confident the only thing that I have passed to ds is immunity.
He’s since had 3 close contacts at nursery test positive, but didn’t get it himself.
You have to make the right decision for your family, but I would definitely advocate having it.

SouthwestSis · 03/07/2021 13:18

A close friend just had her 2nd jab whilst breastfeeding her 6 week old. You're much better use to your little one if you're not sick with covid

FinleyBonnie16 · 03/07/2021 13:22

I sorry I’m new on here and not sure how to reply to people, can I ask how old your little ones were when you had the vaccine! Thank you

newmumfeb21 · 03/07/2021 13:22

DS is EBF and I've had both jabs (Pfizer). No side effects excepting the second one left me with a sore arm for a couple of days.

A very dear friend in her mid-30s died after catching Covid last year, so I thought it best to have it.

TankGirl97 · 03/07/2021 13:24

Yes, slightly different as dd is 2yo, but I had both doses of az with no qualms and no problems.

PintOfBovril · 03/07/2021 13:26

BF my 21 month old and I had mine when he was about 17 months (I work in the NHS). I had the Pfizer and felt rough for 24 hours after each time. He was a little bit fussy/ stuffy nosed for a few days after but I don't think it was related, he gets one thing after another from nursery.

emlingccfc · 03/07/2021 13:31

Yep AZ vaccine at 5 weeks and 4 months post partum. No side effects. We both had covid when he was 9 weeks old, me mildly (after 1st dose vaccine), he was pretty poorly with a croupy cough and fever but thankfully didn't need hospital.

KatieKat88 · 03/07/2021 13:37

Yep breastfeeding 19 month old DD, had my first jab just over a month ago (Pfizer) - no issues for either of us. Hoping antibodies are passed on in milk as research suggests so far.

The Breastfeeding Network are fab with their work around feeding and medication and recommend the jab based on the evidence so far. www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/coronavirus/

NonBinaryNumbers · 03/07/2021 13:39

I had the first dose (Pfizer) 2 days ago. I'm bf a 4 month old and haven't noticed any side effects at all.

Some immunity is passed on to the baby, which was one reason I wanted the vaccine while bf. The main reason is however that an acquaintance's newborn is very, very ill due to Covid, and I would not want to pass the infection on (I have contact with many pregnant women and babies) and be responsible for something similar.

Persipan · 03/07/2021 13:40

Literally sat in the post-vaccination rest chairs right now from my second dose of AZ. Baby is 15m.

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 03/07/2021 13:41

Snap! I wasn’t quite eligible when pregnant do had it as soon as possible afterwards.

No side effects for me or them.

Edelweiss2020 · 03/07/2021 13:45

Had my first dose a week ago, baby was 2 weeks old. I literally just had a sore arm and that was it.

Vaccine wasn't advised in pregnancy until I was about 35 weeks so I decided to wait until baby was here then booked in ASAP :)

silverstrawberry · 03/07/2021 13:46

I had the Astra Zeneca 1st dose I'm breastfeeding I've had covid since the vaccine and she has been fine throughout she hasn't caught covid

VoyageInTheDark · 03/07/2021 13:56

I had first dose pfizer 2 weeks after giving birth. No side effects for either of us
