Recurrent miscarriages

Hi all - firstly, sorry I’ve posting in the wrong place.

I have had 4 miscarriages and I am being seen by a miscarriage clinic. They have done a number of blood test on me and everything comes back in the normal ranges, my partner has had a sperm test and again everything is in the normal ranges.

They tested my last pregnancy for chromosome abnormalities but it didn’t work as it was mixed with too much maternal blood. They wouldn’t do chromosome tests on me and my partner without something being indicated in the testing of the foetus that there may be an issue. The last appointment I had basically said at that point to just try again and they have given me progesterone and high dose folic acid.

Anyway- long story short, I have recently paid privately for chromosome tests on me and my partner and all come back normal. So I have a couple of questions if anybody has ever been through the same thing:
Is it possible that it is me and my partner that aren’t compatible - is there a test for that? Sorry that sounds like a stupid question but I just don’t know if it’s such a thing and no health professional has said that to me
What else is there they can test for? I think all I have left is a scan of uterus. I have looked up NK cells but can’t find anywhere in my area that tests and it’s not offered on the nhs

Thanks in advance

Hi OP. I'm sorry for your losses.

I have had three and had basic bloods done at Tommy's Birmingham which all appeared normal (except positive for thyroid antiobodies). Have you been tested for antiphospholipid (sticky blood)?

I didn't get on great at my first clinic so I'm now with Tommy's Coventry under prof Quenby, she and her team are amazing. I took part in the CERM trial she is running which investigates the link between endometrisis (note not endometriosis). Endometrisis is a chronic inflammation of the womb lining and current thought is that a large proportion of women with unexplained miscarriages suffer with this. I tested positive and therefore were given the drugs to take for 2 weeks (either a strong antibiotic or a placebo). There have been some really good news stories coming out so far!

It is highly unlikely that the reasons for your miscarriages are because you and your partner are incompatible as I believe that is extremely rare.

Thank you

Yes, they have checked for sticky bloody but all normal. As it stands they are just describing it as unexplained.

Oh that trial sounds so interesting! I wish I lived somewhere near a Tommy’s clinic. Fingers crossed for you that you get some good news after this. 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Are you based in England? I don't live in Coventry but you can be referred from anywhere

No wales so I don’t think they refer there?? I will ask though anything is worth a try

Hi I have had 4 miscarriages tests coming back with in normal range, currently 34 weeks with my 5th pregnancy ! I am older with a hi BMI. this pregnancy I was put on progesterone pesserys from positive test and 150mg of aspirin I was already on the higher dose of folic acid due to BMI.
The nurses at EPU told me it could of been, progesterone and aspirin or it could be, just the numbers game and the right time, right egg and right sperm. Good luck

I have had 4 miscarriages as well. I saw a consultant, had all the tests, found nothing wrong except for mild pcos.

I also get pregnant very very easily. So I looked at hyper fertility and actually booked an appointment with the Coventry clinic. I just called them and they booked me in- I think I was planning on paying though. I did everything privately. I didn't get that far though.

I then fell pregnant and took metformin and progesterone. I now have a two year old and I'm pregnant again. I'm taking progesterone again this time.

Don't give up. Good luck.

I am similar. Reading this currently, very helpful! onlineshop.oxfam.org.uk/is-your-body-baby-friendly-/product/HD_200367620

tested for mthfr mutation (i have it and unable to process folic acid so replace it with methylfolate). Easy/cheap fix worth trying. Also progesterone and aspirin. Ubiqiinol and vit d supplements.

Check your thyroid, cytokines and natural killer cells, plus other clotting disorders. I went private due to my age (38), not sure what NHS offers.

The only way of knowing really is to do IVF with PGS testing of embryos but it's still
Not 100% accurate - which is what I did after 5 miscarriages - all my embryos on one round came back as abnormal so that kind of explains things - poor egg quality. however I decided not to test anymore embryos and then had healthy twins.

You can pay privately and have NK cells testing done at Warwick university

Hi @Vlcky90 firstly I am so sorry for your losses. I’m from wales too- South Wales and I’ve had 4 recurrent miscarriages as well.
I had tests on the nhs they all came back as normal. My husbands sperm was tested and was normal too. I didn’t have a problem getting pregnant, it was keeping the pregnancies that I struggled with. I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant now with my first child because of crgw. It’s an ivf clinic but we didn’t have ivf we just saw the consultant there who prescribed medication for me when I got pregnant. As there was nothing “wrong” with my bloods etc it was basically a educated guess. I had antibiotics at the start of my period to reduce inflammation of the lining of the womb, and I started acupuncture and got pregnant that cycle. Then I was prescribed clexane injections and high dose progesterone pessaries to take from the positive test and then aspirin from 6 weeks. I changed my folic acid to L-Methylfolate As I was worried in case I had the MTHFR gene. I also had a scan of my womb and ovaries to check everything was okay internally. I was going to book an appointment with dr shehata in London as he’s the leading expert on NK cells as id convinced myself that was the cause of my miscarriages although it so expensive we thought we’d try the consultant at CRGW first xx

Vlcky90 · 10/06/2021 02:45

Thank you all for comments, they have all been really helpful and given me some more things to explore. It’s so nice to hear where people have got there in the end too and I think exactly what I needed to hear right now.

@Sparrowsong I’ll have a look at that! What is ubiquinol? Is it something you need to be prescribed or is it over the counter?

@Soph30 ahh that’s really good to know, it was crgw who done the chromosome tests for me as they were the only place I could find that would do them. Me and my partner have been talking about going back to have a consultation with them and we’re even thinking about the ivf route to see if that made any difference.
