Has anyone had the news that their placenta doesn’t have enough blood flow to the baby snd been warned about preclampsia? I really need to talk to someone.

Hi Disabrie. Sorry you've not had best news at your scan. How many weeks are you? Did the sonographer indicate how bad the blood flow was? Did you get to talk to a doctor? Will you be getting growth scans, or are you far enough along that they're considering delivering?

If it helps, at my 20 week scan, my uterine artery doppler was high. Didn't necessarily indicate that placenta was getting enough blood (or at least they never said as much), but it was a potential marker for IUGR and pre-eclampsia. Meant I got growth scans at 28 and 32 weeks as well as the usual one (at my trust) at 36 weeks. All those growth scans showed a regular to large sized, normally growing baby.

I did go on to develop pre-eclampsia. But, if it hadn't have been picked up at a routine midwife appointment, I would never have known. BP was bought under control with a minimal dose of labetalol, and while I was admitted to hospital for the final week of my pregnancy, I still felt absolutely fine. I delivered at 37+1 after being induced. Everything was fine. Myself and baby were (and still are) perfectly healthy.

I know it's a huge worry, on top of all the regular worries pregnancy brings. But the important thing is is that the issue is now detected, and your ongoing care will take that into account. Try not to dive too deeply down the Google rabbit hole. Relax, breathe, and be very kind to yourself. ❤️

I had my Doppler 2 weeks ago. The results were abnormal due to notching. I've got to have growth scans.

Hi was told at 29 weeks that one of my twins placentas wasn't working right, and it was due to my blood pressure, I was put on labetol and the problem seems to have sorted itself for now I'm now 33 weeks still have high blood pressure but no other symptoms and that twin has put on 2lb since then.

Hi @Disabrie22 I had my routine 36 week scan a few days ago at 35+4 and was told my placenta isn’t working well any more and my baby was diagnosed with IUGR and was sent straight to my MAU to be assessed for pre-eclampsia as my blood pressure was high before the scan and my feet were (and still are) really swollen. My blood pressure remained high at the MAU so I’m now being induced at 37+3 if my blood pressure can be maintained with medication, otherwise baby will be coming imminently. Having BP checks every 2-3 days with first check being done later on today. I know how scary it feels to be told these things as you just don’t expect it to happen to you! Here if you want to ask questions or need to talk xx

Thank you so much - 21 weeks and very scared - thank you for mentioning this drug? Is it a blood pressure lowerer?

Labetalol? Yes it lowers blood pressure. Very safe to take in pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Baby will need to have their blood sugar checked after birth if you need to take it, and you need to be weaned off it for a few weeks after birth.

I had this with.my eldest son. I only put on 12 lb in pregnancy too. They made me have a scan every 4 weeks from 22 weeks. I was given tablets too, don't remember the name but to bring blood pressure down. Blood pressure did go up more after 36 weeks and was told baby not big enough after each scan which worried me sick but he was born at 41 weeks and 2 days after I had to have bed rest in final 5 days. He was fine and 6 lb 12 1/2 in the end so he must have gained quite a lot in last 2 weeks. Try not to worry. The more you worry the more your blood pressure will go up. Try to make sure you rest when you can.
