Hiya,
Baby is measuring 8pounds 9oz on today's scan with extra fluid around him (first baby and I'm 5'4).. being sent for another diabetes test and may have to be induced soon.

I'm just wondering has anyone ever had a natural birth with a larger baby? I'm really worried about the recovery of a csection. Would love to hear your story's if u don't mind sharing.

Thank you xx

I had 3 large babies (biggest was 9lb12oz) but I'm a lot taller than you.

However my little brother was 10lb6oz and my mother is 5feet exactly, so it can be done,,

@weegiemum glad to hear thank you🙈 did you have any bad tears? Heard a lot about this when giving birth naturally

Elcs is not as bad as many make out. Better than labouring and then ending up with an emcs if baby does get stuck.

I'm taller than you and was a dress size 12 at my slimmest. Had natural unassisted births with 2 big babies. Our 2nd was 10lb 12 oz with polyhydramnios, took 14 mins to push him out as his shoulders got a bit stuck. Our 3rd was 9lb 10oz also with polyhydramnios, just a few pushes as her head was quite big at 37.7cm. We then had breech twins via elcs, their combined birth weight was 17lb at 38wk. Tough pregnancy but the elcs was much better than I expected and I didn't find recovery any harder than my VB's. Our smallest baby was our 1st at 7lb 7oz, was induced and ended up with vontouse due to fetal distress (cord round neck), found that the hardest to recover from due to internal bruising from the assistance at pushing stage.
Got growth scans for this baby in a couple of weeks, they've said they'll bring her early if she's bigger than the boy was. Will be opting for elcs over induction.

Good luck

I was born 5 kg myself, VB, now if you ask my mum she would choose c-section over VB.

Now I am 40+3 weeks pregnant with my number 1. I was worried that baby would be big due to family history of big babies. My hospital was thinking it was normal size at 32 weeks scan. I went for a private scan, baby was measured 8pounds 2 oz at 37+1, I shared it with my midwife but noone seemed to be concerned about it.

I did not want induction, and told about this to my midwife, we decided to wait until 42 weeks, and they booked a CS at 42 weeks if she does not come naturally by then. Waiting is very stressful and to be honest If i could I would move the date 1 week earlier for CS but for now there is nothing I can do.

The choice between CS and VB is in your hand. Some women give birth to very big babies without any instrument or issues whereas I have heard stories of instrumental births and episiotomies with very small babies. My midwife also said big babies are usually easier to deliver (her words not mine).

Good luck with the birth and I hope it will be an easy one.

Have you thought about an ELCS op?

I'm currently 37 weeks and measuring 6 weeks ahead, baby estimated around 9-10lbs.

I was also diagnosed with GD last week having previously passed GTT test.

Is it your first baby?

My first was 8lb 6oz and I needed an episiotomy and suffered a heamorrage, which is why i opted for a section this time around.

One of my babies was big, nearly 10lbs. Birth was a bit of a drama, but I only had one small cut which cleared up very quickly. Recovery was absolutely fine, was very surprised.

By the way, I’m certain big babies are the best!!! They are sooo cubby and cute plus mine fed and slept like a dream which I’m sure was down to his size?!. All the midwives in the hospital had to come and see him cos he was so big, they aren’t used to it and make a fuss.

My 3rd was 9lb 13 and I had an induced vbac with him as he was 10 days late . I found labour much easier with him than with DC1 who was only 6lb 13. I did end up with a big episiotomy because DC3 was coming out hand first. I found both labours easier to recover from the elcs I had for breech DC2 - I really hated that but I did get unlucky with a bad reaction to the drugs.

I'm about 5 5. My smallest baby was 8lb11 and biggest 9lb10.

My 4th was estimated to be 8lb15 at my 37wk scan, no GD. He was induced at 40wks due to them not wanting him to go over 5kg (all mine have been well over 40wks) labour was ok, but my body wasn't ready so did need the drip to get contractions going and I opted for an epidural in first. Established labour lasted 4hrs, he was out in one push, though i appreciate it was a path well travelled by number 4. He weighed 9lb5 in the end so the scan was probably about 1lb out.

I'm expecting #5 who is apparently average sized, which based on the others i think is either rubbish or concerning!
