At my last check up I was told that my baby was transverse so I trying to work out if s/he has moved or not.

Is where I feel the most movement where the feet are likely to be or do they punch and kick in equal measure?

Told you it was stupid question...

how many weeks are you ?

also, the shape of your bump can give you an indication of lie

where are you feeling movement?

beansprout · 19/11/2007 14:44

I am 29+5 and most of the movement is at (if my bump were a clock as you looked at me) 2 and 3 o'clock.

I've been wondering exactly this beansprout. I'm 26 weeks and baby kicks(?) at either side at the same time and at times I feel movement really far round on the side. I know it's still early but I was wondering when it should move into the 'right' position. A lot of the time I'm not sure it's feet but rather bits moving about like a bottom or shoulder, does that make sense? My bump is very round (where have my hips gone?)and totally different to when I was expecting dd.
(Sorry i couldn't help but can sympathise- does that help? )

That makes a lot of sense! I know they still have plenty of time to move but am keen to chart progress!!

both my babies were head down from 28 weeks, and i felt kicks all over the place, a lot towards the sides and top of the bump.. if you lie down and have a good feel around, you should be able to ascertain where the head is, the head can sort of be moved between your hands, and a bottom cannot, so that might help.at this point there is bags of time for the baby to move, so it is not critical at this stage by any means... if your belly button starts to stick out, means your baby is in a really good position

Ooh, thanks for the belly button tip - that is promising!! Will try the moving head, stuck bottom search later. Thanks Lulumama.

Ooh, my belly button is sticking out so maybe it is in the right position after all! Got a check up in a couple of weeks so will find out for sure. Thanks for tips lulumamma

I've been wondering about this too - I am 31 weeks, and so far the midwife hasn't been able to tell by feeling how the baby is positioned (I am overweight, so lots of flab to feel through!!) My belly button had flattened, but not popped out, I get most of my movements towards the top of my bump, although some at the bottom on the right, and I mostly get squirming type movements on the left, and kicking ones on the right. Can I tell from this that the baby is in a good position?

spackcat · 23/11/2007 15:25

Just wait till your baby gets the hiccups!-I wondered the same thing until I felt hiccups very low down near my bladder,(as these movements eminate from the head) then when the m/w checked me over she confirmed the baby was head down at 28 weeks. I am 30+4 weeks now and the baby is still in the same position. If you are not sure what movements are hiccups they feel like subtle ticks every few seconds or less.
Hope this helps!

KelaS · 25/11/2007 11:44

Ah, that does help, thanks! I think I felt some hiccups for the first time yesterday, and they were very low down, so that makes me feel better about it being head down! In terms of whether it is spine forward or not, etc, it seems to move so bloody much I think it hasn't quite decided yet!!
