Hi
We're due our first baby in September so trying to think what I would want/need...when washing and bathing a newborn what products do you use? Or is it best to just use warm water initially? Can you use baby lotions?

I used aveeno body/hair wash and lotion as baby's skin got quite dry. You don't need bubble bath or baby shampoo for a while.

You just use water for ages - they don't need anything else. I did use Green People baby oil for after if her skin was getting a little dry.

Around 4/5 months, I introduced a body wash (Green People) and I use lotion (Child's Farm) now as well.

Baby shampoo and baby soap. Just use lukewarm water.

We also got a baby shower seat which was a great buy.

Asda's little angels top to toe wash. I would only bath them once or twice a week early on and as needed as they started to be mobile or weaning. All ours had infant eczema until around 2yr so I would use the emollient cream in their bath when it was quite bad. Now they're all older mist bubble bath, shower gel and shampoos are fine. Will do the same with this baby.

Creams and lotions are fine for baby, just try to get the ones with fewer additives/perfumes etc.

I just bathed once a week and only with water for a good while.

Just water is generally fine until you start weaning, unless you have a baby that dribbles/pukes a lot of milk and then you might want something more than water.

I tend to find they get cradle cap fairly early on so a cradle cap shampoo is nice to try and help with that.

I used a baby bath liquid when he was little as they are not as strongly perfumed. Now he's nearly 3, normal kids' bath stuff is fine although we are still using the baby shampoo.

As others have said, just water is fine for months after birth.
I’m having my first too, but I attended a webinar a few weeks ago about things like this - bathing, best nappies, feeding etc.

The midwife said the water should be 37 degrees (body temperature) and to avoid anything other than water. She said talcum powder is a no-no and that lots of products dry out their skin so to just keep it simple.
