Hi

Does anyone want to join in a thread to discuss and provide ongoing support to have a healthy pregnancy when you are currently already overweight or obese.

I am pregnant with #2 and 11 weeks tomorrow. I have my booking in appointment next week and in order to be accepted as it's an MLU I need to ensure my BMI is under 35, so I need to lose 2 pounds by then in a safe way.

However, I want to ensure I don't gain any unnecessary weight during the whole pregnancy because I am obese already and know I would struggle to lose after. So any tips of motivation is welcome. I know it is not recommended to lose weight when pregnant so it's really about eating healthier and exercising also.

Anyone with me?

Hi there,

Fantastic that you are motivated to make some changes to get on track to a healthier weight, what steps are you hoping to start with?

Me 2 small changes so far are to aim for at least 10,000 steps a day at least 5 days a week(I usually manage 8000 a day as I walk to work and back anyway so 2000 extra seems achievable), making sure I am carrying a water bottle with me more of the time, and getting in healthier snacks and prepping a couple of days worth in advance, I've gone for carrot and cucumber sticks this week.

I'm going to start swimming once a week and have reduced takeaways and cut out any full fat fizzy and cut out chocolate for the most part!

I'm 15 weeks and 8lbs less than pre pregnancy

BMI was 32 at booking. Was 36 in my last 2 pregnancies (1 singleton, 1 twins) and I did fairly well in both only being 7lb heavier after birth than pre-pregnancy. My 1st 2 pregnancies I started out at much lower BMI's but gained 4st in each which was excessive. This pregnancy I gained far too much in the 1st trimester but have not gained much at all since around 16wk, now 29+3wk. Once the nausea had gone I got back to my healthier eating and cooking from scratch, I ate a lot more convenience foods early on. I have continued to do powerlifting throughout despite spd, can't push as hard but maintaining a reasonable level of strength.

Good luck ladies

I managed to lose 3 stone in the months before I conceived and had lost 2 stone the previous year. Basically the day I found out I was pregnant was the day I dropped from obese to overweight. I've deliberately started eating more as I was losing weight in an extremely unhealthy manner before but have still lost another 4/5 lbs and to be honest I plan on continuing to lose weight for as long as I can. I would hope that when I stop losing I could maybe just maintain.

I walk 5km every single day without fail and keep it low carb as much as possible. I try to have lots of snacks available but healthy snacks like celery sticks/carrot sticks, sliced cucumber, boiled eggs etc.

I've found that I'm completely ravenous but I don't really fancy any food, although if offered junk food I'd devour it!

Me me me! I have 2 dc and a sahm. I was trying to get more active walking every day, keeping busy and not sitting down to much during the day. Gardening (which was pretty physical cutting trees down etc). Then boom.. found out I'm pregnant with surprise baby 3!!! I was a size 12 with baby 1 and it's just crept up and up since then. I suffer badly with SPD in pregnancy which makes it nearly impossible to be active without being in excruciating pain.. so trying to make the most of this pregnancy before that kicks In!! Not sure of my weight as it's something I avoid checking... I am 8 weeks and have my blood tests today and they will weigh me. My BMI is I guess 34-35. Can update later.

I already have a lot of water retention in this pregnancy which is making me feel like I've put loads of weight on and getting me down. I am testing to snack on fruit (blueberries, bananas apples). Then having salad with lunches and eating more veg etc. Trying not to snack between meals apart from fruit. I've been drinking alot more water than I usually do.

I'd love to come on this journey with you all Smile

I have recently got my BMI down to about 26/27 but I'm still scared it's not enough.

I'm on 5g of folic acid and have been for 6 months after we lost our ds2 who was very poorly with spina bifida. My BMI was 31 at the time and there's a correlation between weight and NTDs.

I'm only 6 weeks but I'm really aiming to keep a steady weight if this pregnancy progresses.

I am 11 weeks now and so far I have not put any weight on at all or lost any I'm just staying the same. I have not exercised much at all but at watching what I am eating. After booking scan this week I am going to start walking at nights and preparing meals for work, I tend to need snacky bits throughout the day to keep me on track so thinking

  • carrots and houmous
  • Apple and peanut butter
  • rice cakes with low fat cheese spread and cucumber
  • fruit of course
  • yogurts

Anything else?

With my first pregnancy I didn't put much weight on I gained all of it during maternity leave and low mood, I never lost it so here I am. Want to be ahead of the game as such.

I know it's not recommended but I have to calorie count because I have no idea on portions. So at the moment I'm eating 1600 daily and bmi of 35 - should I raise this a bit.
