Hi...we're due our first child in Sept so slowly working our way through a list of items to buy. I know we won't need a cot straight away as using Moses basket/bedside crib.
I'm just looking for recommendations of where people got their cot from? I would like one that would last from 6 months until toddler bed so cot/bed? I have had a browse around online but just wondering if anyone can recommend one they've used?

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for cot bed recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best cot beds page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their kids. We hope you find it useful.

Both of mine had IKEA cots. Not the same one as DD’s didn’t make it but that’s not because it was poor quality- it lasted until she was 3 surviving a transatlantic move in a shipping container and 2 local moves before finally giving out on its return trip across the Atlantic! The one we have now for DS is Sundvik. The assembly was easy, DH and I did it in about 30 minutes the day before my c-section (I don’t recommend leaving it quite as late as that!) and it converts into a cot bed so when you suddenly discover you’ve got a climber it’s not a worry. It cost £100 plus the mattress. I’d definitely recommend.

Also both of mine hated the moses basket and were too long for it after about 3 months anyway so were in the big cot in our room from being tiny. If you’re short on space in your room then IKEA do make a smaller crib size cot where you can still take the sides off to convert to a toddler bed. It’s called Gullivar.

We've had cotbeds from a few different places. Most are pretty sturdy so just choose one you like the look of.
Only tip is get one where both head/foot end shorten when converted in to a bed. We had a sleigh one where the head stayed the same height which made it quite wobbly. Our twins used it until 5 years old though, often both in it at once despite us getting another toddler bed.
