Amniotic fluid?

Hi,

I just wanted a bit of advice, I am 22 weeks pregnant and on Friday I noticed while I was at work that my underwear was really quite wet. I observed it for some time and it didn’t seem to happen again so assumed it wasn’t amniotic fluid.

Over the weekend I didn’t notice anything like this happen just usual discharge.

It’s now Tuesday and I’m back at work, and the same thing seems to have happened. My question is, if it was amniotic fluid surly it would be constant and I wouldn’t of had 3 days without noticing anything?

I’m now worried as I don’t think it could be because I am too hot, as its warm outside and didn’t occur on my 30min walk to work. Could it be the chairs maybe?

I don’t want to bother the midwifes if its nothing, and again I don’t want to upset work as I have had quite a lot of time off due to my pregnancy already.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi! midwives won't mind best to be safe and ask x

Give maternity assessment unit a call, they can check everything is looking normal.

It's most likely just normal discharge but always best checked if you are worried.

It could be the chairs and sweat but if you are worried at all, please seek the midwife

Better to be safe than sorry

If you can get one pop a pad on your underwear then the hospital can check the fluid

If you ring triage they will ask you a series of questions to work out whether it’s likely to be amniotic fluid or not and so whether you need to go in or not x

I think you can buy special pads from boots that detect amniotic fluid. They're about £30 though and not many of the stores stock them so you have to order them online.

I was worried about this last pregnancy it was just a particularly sweaty incident involving tights and a hot day. A bit embarassing, but nothing more to it. The chairs could well be to blame. BUT if worried I echo what pp said and put a pad on and take it to be assessed if there is any more - always better to be safe than sorry. The midwives wont mind and your work doesnt matter - the health of your baby is far more important.
