Gestational diabetes - what were your levels?

Hi there I'm just after some advice as currently no answer from the diabetic nurse.

I tested negative at 28 weeks for GTT, i am now 36 weeks and had a scan Thursday which showed baby was above 97th percentile.

Was given a testing kit and told to monitor levels, fasting and 1 hour after meals.

I've attached a photo of my readings, the circled ones are higher than the recommended 7.8.

I'm just wondering if it's indicative of diabtetes and if anyone had similar?

I have an appointment next week to discuss them and will try nurse again tomorrow.

Thank you.

I've been diagnosed with GD, was diagnosed at around 8 weeks so super early in (but both my parents are diabetic so I was high risk) I generally sit at around the 6 figures after meals so definitely does seem a little high. Also notice you have one reading of exactly 7.8, in my hospital that would be glassed as above target as I need to be below 7.8, with myself I was only allowed 3 high readings before I started medication but I have read on here that some hospitals have a more relaxed approach. Hopefully everything works out for you OP and they can give you some advice at your next appointment!

That should have said classed as not glassed, whoops

Thank you for your reply! Yes I was told if I had 2 high readings to give the diabetic nurse a call, but alas I cannot get through.

Can I ask was your baby big? Dd is estimated at 7lb 14oz at my 36 weeks scan, which seems huge!

Where you offered a early induction/section?

Thanks!

@bubblebath62636 I have the same issue! They never pick up the phone! I'm currently only 29 weeks at the moment so not too sure how big he'll be! He was estimated 2.7lb at last scan and have a scan next week to see how he's doing but he's only measuring around 50th percentile at the moment so doesn't seem to be on track to be too big yet!

I've heard the scans can be quite inaccurate too so I wouldn't worry too much yet!

So far no mention of early induction just yet!

As far as I know(2nd time with gestational diabetes) if you are exercise and diet controlled they don’t like to induce you unless you have other issues going on. If you are on medication, they do tend to offer induction at 38/39 weeks. This is at my hospital. Last time I had pre eclampsia so was induced early, this time I am doing good though my blood sugars are a pain am still not on medication and am at my due date tomor. I am booked in for induction on Thursday though if nothing happens in the meantime. I believe the NICE guidelines have changed to recommend nobody should go beyond 41 weeks now even healthy pregnancies, without the offer of intervention should the mother wish to be induced/sectioned. My baby is measuring 3.5 kg as of last week, bigger than my first who was only a 7 pounder but I’m also farther along this time so more time to grow. My hospital also counts any reading above 7 after a meal as high so a bit stricter, and they put you on medication if you are consistently high.
