Experience of pregnancy in mid/late 40’s

Hi all... I am looking to hear the experience of others who are/were pregnant in their mid or late 40’s.

Basically I am 22 weeks pregnant ( 44 years old) and feel so tired that I can’t believe there is not something wrong with me and am starting to worry about having a newborn feeling like this.

I was pregnant at 35 and 38 so while not as old as I am now still quite old in preggo terms and I didn’t feel anything like this.

I can hardly function. I sleep 12 hours a night and then 3 hours in the day. Yet I always feel drained. I have to psyche myself up to do any physical activity ( putting the washing machine on, putting the children to bed) and am then even more exhausted when I finish said activity.

I went to drs about 3 weeks ago and blood tests show anaemia and low iron stores so now on iron and back on folic acid but I don’t feel any better . I will go back in another week if things don’t improve ( I have had anaemia and low iron before and didn’t
Feel as bad as this as my iron was lower and I responded to the iron quickly and felt better within a week).

I don’t have any other symptoms of illness.

So I am curious if it is my age... is pregnancy really this much more of a strain at my age?

I think age does make it feel tougher.
I had our last term pregnancy at 30, twins. I'm now 37 with a singleton on board and this pregnancy has felt harder than the last earlier on. I do a lot more in general now with 5 kids, a dog and training in the gym, I do have a lot of nanna naps lol.

You should go back and have your bloods done again if treatment has not improved anything. There could be issues with absorption and they can try other things.

I had DD at 37 and now DS at 41, and was completely and utterly exhausted both times for the first and last trimesters (felt relatively normal in the second). Barely able to get off the sofa, falling asleep between eight and nine on a regular basis. Iron levels and everything else well above the threshold both times, so I think this is just my body diverting all available energy to growing babies. My sympathy OP - I hope you feel better at some point. If it's any consolation the exhaustion was replaced by normal tiredness after birth...
