Hi, i am similar very overweight and 31 weeks pregnant - I haven't put on any weight in pregnancy. Ask your midwife for help as a lot of trusts have a scheme in place to support overweight mums not to put more weight on. I think quite a lot of my weight was the extra calories from wine Blush which obviously I haven't been having. So it's worked out ok.

Eat a healthy diet and calories at a level to maintain weight. You can follow plans like slimming World and weight watchers during pregnancy, just ask your midwife about it.
Keeping up with any exercise regime you have throughout can help reduce excess gains. I still powerlift and do a lot of walking, though I have had to reduce things due to spd and rapidly growing bump (28+2wk now).

Ok that is so good to know

I walk a lot
Mostly 1-2 hours per day so hope to keep that up

Just worried about the knock in effect of extra weight

Put on 4 stone in my last pregnancy

I lost weight during my pregnancy - if you’re overweight that’s absolutely fine

PixieDust28 · 27/05/2021 13:44

Healthy diet and lots of walking.
I was a bit overweight with my DS but actually lost a lot of weight. Not intentionally. But because I was eating healthy and on my feet all day with work it shifted. MW wasn't concerned as DS was measuring well and I could do with losing the weight.

4 stone isn’t pregnancy weight it was your lifestyle at the time

@Queenie6655 what I mean is the average baby is 7lb, then some amniotic fluid weight. But that’s nowhere near 4 stone. A stone at most. So it was your eating not baby weight. Ok not judging as I’m overweight and was during pregnancy too - just saying 4 stone is t normal pregnancy poundage!

HotPotatoHotPotato21 · 01/06/2021 07:25

Just focus on not gaining much during your pregnancy and you will be fine. I think slimming world does a pregnancy plan as pp suggested or track your calories in my Fitness Pal but make sure you are not restricting them especially if you are doing lots of walking which is great! This will also encourage you to eat more balanced as it says if you have had too much sugar etc. I believe ww you can only do once you've had baby but I highly recommend it once baby is here. You may be consultant led depending on your BMI.
I lost three stone within a few weeks of giving birth so it was definitely more than a stone baby weight for me. Baby was only 7lbs but I had a lot of fluid retention, ended up a stone lighter than pre-pregnancy weight. Congratulations on the pregnancy!!

Ok no problem

When I was last pregnant my attitude was eat, eat , eat

I did thankfully walk 2-3 hours a day up to around 36 weeks

But thanks all

Was just worried about what may be said to me
And getting out of control again with eating

My weight has not been mentioned much tbh, it combined with age and number baby I'm on have flagged me as high risk for clots. I've been weighed 3 times, at booking, at dating scan for the combined testing and then last week for the dosage of my blood thinners. I think if I was showing signs of being quite unfit with it they would be more concerned, I am carrying less fat now than I was during 2 of my previous pregnancies which went well.

4st is an excessive gain, I gained that much in each of my 1st 2 pregnancies. With our 3rd I only gained 2.5st and was 7lb heavier after birth than pre-pregnancy. With our twins I stopped weighing myself at 2st gain, I was only 7lb heavier after birth though so did pretty well. This one I'd gained loads by 16wk but have gained very little since then (now 29+1wk) as I improved my diet after the nausea passed. I have big babies and the online calculators always say I'm way over where I should be on the gains front. Like someone said 1 stone gain is enough, our son was 10lb 12oz with high fluid levels. I weighed myself a few days before birth and a week after birth was 2.5st lighter so that is total codswallop.

Thanks so much all

Will try to keep walking
And hopefully not pile on too much more
But yes there is a teeny tiny human growing so I need to be extra careful and go easy on myself
Our bodies really are amazing xxxxxx
