Scan at 24 weeks, anyone else?

Hi,

I just wanted to ask if anyone had experience of having an additional scan at 24 weeks during their pregnancy please?

Unfortunately, I lost a twin at 14 weeks so my pregnancy was deemed high-risk. My 20 week scan showed that the surviving twin (separate sac) was doing well and as he should be for 20 weeks which was a big relief. The hospital said they wanted me to have further scans just for my own reassurance and additional support but they were pleased.

However, I've received a call from a nurse confirming my appointment yesterday (appointment is tomorrow) and she discussed the reasons as to why they do 24 week scans mentioning growth, blood flow, checking the baby wasn't anaemic and now I am petrified. It seems I've been given two different reasons for my scans?

This isn't my first pregnancy but I'm sure you can understand why any slight mention of a problem causes me worry, given what we have already gone through.

Just wanting to know if anyone has gone through anything similar and can share their experiences/advice please?

I’m very sorry you lost a twin Flowers
I’m pleased your little boy is growing and doing well!

No experience of 24 week scans for me but didn’t want to read and run.

To me it sounds like she’s just talked you through what they will be looking for on the scan. Even though you had been told it’s for reassurance etc they will still need to carry out checks like any other scan and sounds like they are making sure everything is fine for your LO!
Please don’t panic and enjoy seeing your LO again.

Condolences on the loss of your twin.

As it started as a multiple pregnancy they may just continue with the scan schedule they have for multiples. I had fraternal twins last time and was scanned every 4 weeks as they were classed low risk, higher risk twins are done ever 1-2 weeks.
I would happily take any extras offered in your situation, it will help ease any worries you may have going forward. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy
