Hi all,

I know theres lots if vaccine threads and ive worked my way through reading most recent.

Up until the latest guidance i was going to hold off getting vaccine. Mainly because lack of information etc.

Are any woman getting it who work from home? Could easily try and restrict mixing with people like we have been doing during lockdown?

Also, for those not getting it what are your biggest concerns.

Mine are that we dont have enough information but ill happily accept flu vaccine /whooping cough.

Hi all - thanks OP for this thread.
I'm just coming up for 9w and know I will get the vaccine during pregnancy but due to previous MMC in March I'm very nervous to get it done in first tri even though I've had my invite through last week.
Anyone on here have their first dose in 1st tri or did everyone wait/not able to have it until 2nd or 3rd?

I’ve just had my vaccine today - Moderna. Baby is still kicking away and I feel fine, I hear side effects kick in about 6-12 hours after so we’ve stocked up on ibuprofen.

The people at the centre were very keen to make sure I was happy to do it as I’m pregnant, I felt very reassured having it.

Cafeaulait27 · 29/05/2021 14:01

Sorry not ibuprofen - paracetamol!!

And I’m 20 weeks 😊

georgarina · 29/05/2021 14:12

I was a bit freaked out when I got a message saying I could be part of a 'pregnancy vaccine trial' where they give you the injection then monitor your baby's health until birth and as a newborn.

Would rather them already know it's ok tbh.

*Message from my hospital

@Cafeaulait27 I had moderna yesterday. Only side effect has been a really stiff muscle in my upper arm

Cafeaulait27 · 29/05/2021 15:31

@IndigoJam ah that is good to know. I’m working tomorrow so I hope it’s not too bad but a sore arm I can cope with 😊

@georgarina over 100k women in the USA have had the jab and had no adverse effects to mum or baby, but they want to do proper trials as well to gather more data. General consensus is that is fine to have it while pregnant due to the USA data.

@Makingnumber2 I'm 10 weeks today and got my letter two days ago to book the vaccine. I'm thinking I would rather wait until after 1st trimester or at least til after my 12 week scan which isn't until 18th. I do definitely want it though as worried about not being vaccinated in the winter when baby I'd due

Cafeaulait27 · 30/05/2021 11:54

I think if I was in the first trimester I would probably wait until the 2nd just for my own peace of mind, unless I had a health condition that meant it was more important to get vaxed ASAP.

I just had moderna yesterday, I’m 21 weeks on Wednesday. Felt a little ropey yesterday and got a sore arm but other than that fine. Baby still kicking away x

I work from home, am 13 weeks with my first. I had my first vaccine - Pfizer - yesterday. I feel fine part from being a little tired. I am over 40.

I deliberated and researched about having the vaccine. Spoke to my doctor who basically said just have any of the vaccines offered ASAP, but I chose to wait until after 12 weeks and wanted to avoid the AstraZeneca if possible.

My reasoning in the end was I'm due December. If there's a third spike me being fully vaccinated by then and being in and out of hospital felt like the sensible thing to do. Long Covid concerns me as well. I also am very much missing human contact after a year of shielding.

But it is an individual decision. I've found this thread (and others on here) really helpful to not feel quite so alone in making the decision.

One thing that took me by surprise yesterday was the nurse checking me in at the vaccination site. She seemed surprised I was having it once I said I was pregnant. And then I was given a seat and time to read through an info sheet. To absolutely make sure I was confident in my decision. Which I was, but it caught me off guard a little so thought it worth mentioning.

I think the main thing is you have to find a way to be comfortable with the decision that you make for yourself and be confident in your decision. And be kind to yourself, none of this is particularly easy 🌷Good luck deciding.

Cafeaulait27 · 31/05/2021 09:05

@littlelumie I was surprised by that too at the vaccination centre. The woman seemed really surprised I was having it pregnant and kept asking if I had any concerns or wanted to ask questions. She then got a retired obstetrician to come over and talk to me even though I said I’d thoroughly researched and still wanted to have it.

It seemed like they just want to be really sure you’re sure if you’re pregnant, and seems like they sort of don’t think anyone will have researched it.

I did research it extensively, but to be honest it’s not like pregnant women should have to really, as it has been recommended to have it so why wouldn’t I go and have it.

It was a bit strange and unnerved me slightly! I don’t know if it’s to do with this prejudice people have towards pregnant women, whereby they treat us a bit like children and don’t trust that we can make our own informed choices?

@Cafeaulait27

It's good to hear it wasn't just me, you're the first other person I've read about on any threads having a similar experience. I'm not in touch yet with anyone locally /antenatal groups as yet so have no other point of reference! I think you're right, they just want to make absolutely sure. But thanks for replying, good to know you're not in your own with this stuff :)
