Hi All,

After loosing my job to COVID in december i secured a post within the NHS at that time but it took until march to get started due to disclosures ect. I am now going to be 9 weeks pregnant this week, i am very bloated ect and very ill and it is dawning on me that it may not be possible to hide until 16 weeks like i wanted to! I am terrified to tell as i am clinic based and will definitely be missed! I feel really horrid considering i was so lucky to get this job, the pregnancy was not planned but im very much over the moon now the initial shock has passed! Also have no idea about the NHS maternity policy but i dont expect to get any mat pay

Has any one had anything similar ?

Congratulations! It’s hasn’t happened to me personally but it has happened to me as a manager (local government rather than NHS). It also happened to a friend and she was really nervous about telling her boss but they were lovely about it. It’s just one of these things! If you were the best person for the job then it shouldn’t matter. I would probably tell them sooner rather than later so they can think about whether to make any changes to your induction plan. If it were me I might plan duties a bit differently if I knew you were going to be going off in 6 months.

You’ll need to check your mat leave policy but it’s probably unlikely you’ll get anything other than statutory. My policy is you need 26 weeks continuous service by 15 weeks before the estimated due date.
