BFP & Carbamazepine

Hello,

I am new to this website although I have been reading lots of posts on here through Google for months. I finally got my BFP this weekend, a super strong one at that. I'm absolutely over the mood but I've already been struck with anxiety that there will be something wrong with my baby because I take Carbamazepine (300mg) daily. I don't have epilepsy, I take it as a mood stabiliser. My doctor has been great but I guess I'm just really looking for some reassurance from people who have had successful pregnancies and healthy babies whilst taking Carbamazepine, and advice on how on earth did you stop yourself from spending nine full months wondering if something was wrong?! I can't stop taking the medication so that isn't an option. Just feeling really worried instead of excited at the min cause it's my first baby so I have absolutely no idea what to expect!

Hey. Carbamazepine is the drug of choice for epilepsy in pregnancy, but not normally chosen for mood problems as there are some small risks with it. Has your gp told you to stay on it during pregnancy? Have they discussed the risks?

@L1ttleb1t Hey! Yeah, I did try to come off it while we were trying to get pregnant but it was an absolute disaster and so me and my doctor have both agreed it's best that I stay on it. I've self referred to the midwife today so hopefully they will also know more about it, and I've been taking the high dose folic acid since December but I still just feel quite uneasy about it. However I know that I couldn't deal with pregnancy and certainly not with a baby if I wasn't on it!
