St Peters Chertsey maternity, anyone?

Hi,
Has anyone given birth at St Peters?

It is my closest maternity unit but I have heard really mixed reviews about it. Can anyone give me some honest stories?

I would like a private room post birth - is it true they don't let partners stay with you?

Otherwise I think my options are frimley or royal Surrey
Thank you!

I was in the same position as you. I chose Frimley in the end.
I was told no private rooms could be prebooked so you had to hope on the day (there were none!) but no my partner wouldn't have been allowed to stay.
Frimley were kind to me as I gave birth at 3am and they let me stay on delivery until 6am (it was quieter night so we were lucky!) and then allowed my partner to stay with me on the ward (normally he would have been chucked out until 8am) luckily we went home before 8pm but otherwise he would e had to have left

Thanks @warmup I'm fretting a little about the care I will receive and the thought of being left alone with the baby for a night. My DD was born in a different hospital and husband stayed with me and thank goodness he did as I was not in a good place to look after the baby. He had to do everything.

The thought of being put on a shared ward really really worries me and I'm not looking forward to giving birth at all due to the unknowns

Heard not great things to be honest - I would go with either of the other two.

Coming at it from a different angle.. I had dd at St Peters and they were great. She unfortunately needed to go to ICU a few hours after birth and I cannot fault the care we received during her/our stay there. We were immediately given a private room when dd was admitted to ICU and partner was allowed to stay over in there. We were in for 8 nights after the birth. I am forever grateful to the doctors, midwives etc there for noticing something was wrong and for treating her so quickly.
My experience of birth was fine too, induced so not the one I wanted but I felt looked after throughout.

Thanks everyone I've self referred to St Peters in the end as it's my closest hospital and I didn't like the idea of a 40 mins drive to the other hospitals...

I haven't heard the greatest things but have also had a few mum's tell me their experience was fine there. Guess that's the problem with the NHS Confused

Eek wish me luck...

If anyone else has any positive stories please let me know!

Hey @UKmumtobe...how did you get on in the end? St Peter's is my closest too and I've done my self-referral to there but wondering whether to change to West Mid.

Hi, I have also self-referred to St. Peter’s. I have had a lot of care from the EPU there due to previous MCs and they looked after me really well. So hopefully when the time comes, the birthing care will also be similar. I heard from someone who recently gave birth there that they had good care.

@4thTimeLuckyRainbow Yes this is how I ended up going there too, had a MC in Nov and was referred to EPU and also attended last week for some spotting. They have been fab on both those occasions.

Tbh though it doesn't feel like there was much of a choice anyway as my GP just referred me straight there as it is closest? And last time I attended EPU they got me to fill in the booking form there and then.

Two of my friends had babies there last year and didn't have any complaints so fingers crossed.
