Short people, uncomfortable pregnancies?

I'm only 23 weeks but I'm already starting to get pretty uncomfortable. I have a considerable bump, my partner sometimes has to help me getting out of a chair or the bath, if I have to bend over I need to splay my legs out like a giraffe at a watering hole (the only comparison between me and a giraffe you'll ever see) and I'm out of breath walking up the stairs. Not to mention turning over in bed is now being broadcast as a 3-part series on the BBC.

I'm dreading what I'm going to be like later on if I'm struggling now and I'm only in my second trimester. I still have two months left of work!

My friend suggested it's because I'm only 5 foot 2 so the lack of bending space between my hips and ribs mean baby gets in the way a lot earlier for me than taller people.

Have any other short mums found they start to struggle earlier in their pregnancy than their taller friends?

I am the same height as you and I didn’t find it too difficult until near the very end both times, no, so I don’t think it’s your height.

I’m 5’ 4 and my baby is big (predicted to be over 10lbs at birth). Currently 36 weeks pregnant and I am struggling a lot. Need help out of chairs, baths, getting out of bed. Turning over in the night is very painful and has to be done in stages! I have a short torso and long legs (proportion wise, my legs aren’t actually long given I’m quite short haha) which I don’t think helps as baby is taking up so much space!

I'm your height and had big (9.5 lbs) babies. I think there is something in what your friend said, but it does vary. On my first I was reasonably comfortable until the last few weeks, the second I felt heavily pregnant before my third trimester. She was transverse which I think had something to do with it.

Hopefully your baby will find a new favourite position and you'll get a bit of relief!

I’m also 23 weeks and only 5,1! Fourth baby so bump is already huge. I look nearer 8 months pregnant!

Partner helps me up from sitting, rolling over is a full on mission, and I can no longer see to sort my bikini line!

As for the rolling over and struggling to stand from sitting, I did suffer with spd in my previous pregnancies however, so the struggle on my part is likely down to that rearing it’s head again!

I'm 5.0 and currently 37 weeks, think there may be something in it as really struggling with manoeuvring about now, hubby is having to put my socks on for me 🤦‍♀️. I figure if your body is shorter then the baby must take up more space...... my bump feels huge now, at least hopefully not too long to go fir me. This is second pregnancy and had same issues as got bigger with the first one. Probably does vary from woman to woman too tho.

Well I’m not short and I’m only 15 weeks but I’m a beached whale Grin

I'm 5'3 and 33 weeks, also have a short torso and long legs. Turning over in bed is definitely a marathon task but otherwise I'm still fairly mobile and can bend over normally etc despite mildish PGP. So I wouldn't say I feel heavily pregnant apart from the dreaded turning over in bed part.

My issue is that my bump is starting to feel tender and almost bruised in some areas as it feels like it's growing too quickly now for my body to keep up. Around my ribs in particular it feels like I've been punched!
