I'm due to have a baby next week
C section
I had a bad experience with the post natal ward previously was in for 3 days found it very hard to cope cried a lot etc
I'm dreading it
So I'm trying to prepare every little thing so I'm in control
Not being in control is a massive trigger for me
So when you're nipping to toilet etc do you take the baby in the cot with you? I can't remember last time I've blocked it all out
Wherever you go do you wheel the baby with you? I know they don't like you carrying them around
During day will be okay as DH is there but I'm thinking when I'm on my own Whats the protocol? Thanks Smile

You can either wheel them and take them with you or buzz and ask an MCA/midwife to watch them.
I normally buzzed for an MCA. On the first night I also buzzed for them to pass me the babies from their cot and back again. They also passed me everything so I could change the babies on my bed or they would change them for me.

Just get your OH to set you up with everything within reaching distance on the side tables etc. Before he leaves.

I only stayed in 1 night after my elcs. I had a private room and catheter in over night so no need to leave the twins. In the morning they brought me some toast so I didn't have to carry a very full bag along with me. Once catheter was out I did leave them in the room to go to loo but it was right next door so I could see if anyone went near my door. I waited until dh finally arrived to go for lunch and a shower. Didn't need any help caring for or picking them up, they were trialing drop side cots though which was really good. Getting your bag placed close to the bed is a good idea.
I have wheeled babies with me when on my own on a shared ward.

I brought baby with me to the bathroom while feeding him, was easier than stopping mid feed and doable to hold with one hand when so small! I also used a wrap carrier, only needed for going to the bathroom as I just showered when dh was in. No staff available to pass me things at night etc, just had to keep stuff close by and get on with it, slowly!

I left mine in the cot while I went to the toilet. I had retained ALOT of fluid, so I had to pee every 10 minutes. The majority of time there’s only the other women and staff, during visiting hours DH watched the baby. I didn’t see any other women wheeling in their babies around. X

I was in for 5 days after my emergency section and I left my daughter in the cot. I had a drain sewn into my womb and had to carry (hobble!) that with me too, there was no way I could have taken my daughter as well.

Thank you for the replies
I will ask the midwife when I'm there and see what other mums are doing as well
But if I don't feel comfortable i will just take her with me
I'm hopelessly hoping for a private side room with a bathroom but also pigs may fly Grin
