Covid vaccine postpartum

Hello,

I am 32 and being induced next weekend 😬 I have been really anxious about getting Covid and have basically been isolating. The vaccine is now available to my age group, I don’t want to have it pregnant, and given I’m only going to be pregnant for another week give it take it definitely doesn’t seem worth considering.
I will get it when I am breastfeeding but I am unsure how long after having the baby I should wait. I have searched on google but there really doesn’t seem to be any information for women who are just postpartum, compared to those with babies a few months old plus.
Thanks 😊

I can't personally advise but know my friend who recently had a baby had her vaccine 3 weeks after the birth

Thank you, always good to known of other people who have abs when they did. Has she or baby had any side effects do you know?

My sister had the AZ jab about 6 days postpartum. She did have quite a strong reaction unfortunately (nothing that needed medical attention), but she’d already had covid so that might be why. This was a few months back before they changed the age guidance.

The advice I heard from a UK healthcare professional recently was to wait a few (probably 4-6) weeks postpartum, to give you time to recover from the birth and for your hormones to settle down a bit. If you have a vaccine shortly after birth it would be hard to distinguish between possible vaccine side-effects and health issues arising from the birth. The advice might change if you were at particular high risk of contracting COVID, of course. And if you recover quickly and feel well after 2 or 3 weeks, you might want to bring the vaccine forward.

Thank you! That’s really good to know!

Had the az 11 days pp, felt fine just had a red lump on my arm for two weeks, didn't effect my milk supply either. The nurse checked with the gp, think they wanted min 7 days pp

I had the Pfizer jab at 5 days post partum, administered in hospital on my day of discharge (I’d been kept in for a few extra days for monitoring due to developing high blood pressure after the birth). No adverse reaction at all to the vaccine and everything’s gone well with my recovery and baby’s development so far (she is 3 and a half weeks, and is combination fed - more breast milk than formula top ups at this point - so is hopefully is getting some antibodies from the breast milk).

My doctor and hospital are making it available for anyone in pregnancy and/or post partum as their view is that the benefits outweigh the risks (although I should say I’m not in the uk and the advice here has been a bit different). In fact I should have had it while pregnant but I had to be induced at 38 weeks a few days before my original vaccine appointment.
