21 weeks - toothpaste still making me sick

Hey all

I’ve had this problem throughout pregnancy but really expected to feel an improvement by now. I’m 21 weeks and still can’t use toothpaste to brush my teeth as it makes me feel sick and ill.

I have been brushing with just a wet toothbrush (I know I’m a disgrace) and any time I even smear a minuscule bit of toothpaste on my brush I feel sick and that feeling lingers throughout the day.

Am I going to be one of those who will be nauseous until baby comes out 😭 I can’t even deal with the thought of another 20 or so weeks like this.

How’s everyone else doing?

Have you tried changing to a kids fruit flavour toothpaste? Even now 4 years later from my hg mint toothpaste makes me nauseous as l had it so bad.

Sadly this was me until the day my son was born - literally, I brushed my teeth before heading in to have him and distinctly remember it haha

The same is happening now and I'm 19 weeks. Best advice is to hum while you brush. That helps me to avoid the worst of it and some days I can actually brush my teeth!

I'm 21 weeks on Thursday and I could have written this post myself. It's the only thing thats making me sick now, even the thought of it makes me gag 😂 and covid lateral flow tests are just as bad!

Dental nurse here (also pregnant). As long as you are physically brushing, omitting the toothpaste for a while isn’t a big deal, removing the plaque with your brush is the main thing. I found the foamyness of toothpaste made me retch early on so I tried using as little as possible. Use a mouthwash maybe afterwards if you’re concerned about freshness but the actual mechanical act of brushing is the most important. Hope things improve OP
