Early BFP, recent MC and low dose aspirin

Hi all. Looking for any people in similar(ish) scenarios. I got a much-wanted BFP last month, but sadly miscarried about two weeks later at around 6 weeks. I am so fortunate that my cycles appear to have returned to pretty much normal straight away. I O'd a few days later than normal, and this morning, at 10dpo, got another BFP. I usually spot (brown-is) before AF is due, but on Saturday, unusually had bright red spotting (one off), which is different for me, but prompted me to test 48 hours later, as Dr Google suggested it might be IB.

I have read a lot about low dose aspirin used to prevent miscarriage. Too much. From what I have seen, the advice is generally to take it until 12 weeks for those who have had three losses or more. This really frustrates me, as any loss fewer than 3 does not get a look in. I want this one to stick so badly, and don't want to be placid and do nothing. I have seen very few studies, or advices, recommending low dose aspirin for anyone who has had fewer than three losses.

Has anyone taken the plunge and just gone with it without medical advice? Any comments? I anticipate my GP will suggest I don't, because of the generic advice of higher dose aspirin and pregnancy. I totally appreciate that it would be favourable to have the green light from a medical professional, but any fair comments would be welcome. Be gentle! And thanks for reading.

Forgot to say, it's page 8 on the document.

@purplemandm you've definitely made the right decision if you are both happy with it. When's your booking appointment? Just over three weeks to wait for mine!

@2020mission congrats! Abs sorry for your losses. Thanks for sharing this. I stumbled across this one before actually. It's interesting. It doesn't state what the dose of aspirin they refer to though.

I think you're right, it's impossible to say whether the change you made affects the outcome or not.

I think it's one of those things: you'll never get agreement amongst everyone in the field. Good luck with your pregnancy!

Thanks @nellieee. Yeah it would have been helpful for them to include in the document the reason they believe aspirin can be problematic before 8 weeks too. It's hard for ladies to make a decision when there's conflicting advice as obviously some doctors/midwifes say can't do any harm but then the likes of this states don't. I hope your pregnancy is successful too! Just have to keep hopeful

I had preeclampsia with my first pregnancy in 2018 , I had two miscarriages in 2020 both before 8weeks.

I am now almost 38 weeks pregnant.
I was prescribed aspirin 150mg from my 12 week scan Because of the preeclampsia.

Don't think it made any difference in terms of the MC because they were both early.

There are no risks to taking low dose aspirin, according to information on the nhs website. I had 2 losses and started taking 150mg from ovulation and have had no issues, I’m now almost 20 weeks.

I told my midwife and consultant and they were fine with it, consultant said she would’ve put me on it anyway.

A lot of recurrent miscarriage clinics put women on it as a first port of call without any testing as it’s so effective, on a ‘ can’t harm might help’ basis.

So I would say take it, and good luck!

@nellieee I do hope it's the right decision for me! So hard to know!
My booking appointment is on the 27th. I won't even be 6 weeks then so it's a bit earlier than I expected! Hope the wait goes quick go you!

Thanks @Cafeaulait27, it does seem that most medical professionals say there is no harm. Annoyed that my midwife and GP don't agree. I really hope and pray I don't MC again, but if I do I'll definitely take it next time.

@purplemandm fingers crossed everything goes well for you this time!

I did see one thing online before I started taking it which said about not taking it (it was another trust but can’t remember which) and it wobbled me, but I read so many positive stories online and on mumsnet and a friend of mine did it after 3 mcs and it worked, so I decided to go for it and it seemed to work. Luckily my trust agree that it’s good to take, I can understand how hard it is when your trust don’t agree as you feel like you’re going against the pros.

Fingers crossed for you! Xx

Thank you @Cafeaulait27
Really pleased it's worked for you!! Wish you a happy healthy rest of your pregnancy!

@nellieee

Thank you for sharing *@custardbear*. Was the aspirin prescribed, or did you self medicate? This is my theory. From what I have read, consultants ALWAYS prescribe low dose aspirin first off, unless you have any condition that prevents you taking it. My issue is that you have to have had three losses to even get to that stage.
OTC aspirin fir me, consultant didn't give me any scripts but it was ages ago dont forget
