Pregnant and work in a Nursery?

I was wondering if there are any other Mums to be who work in a Nursery? I work in a school nursery (children aged 3-4) I'm 21 weeks pregnant with my first and so far I feel ok...I do spend a lot of time on the floor though and on the teeny tiny chairs and I'm starting to think should I be doing this? I've been trying to do a mixture of standing and sitting during the day.
Bump isn't so big yet so imagine when I do get bigger won't be able to do this.
I will be 30wks when we break up for the Summer holidays so will then have 6weeks at home then will go back for a week and a few days before starting maternity if all goes to plan. 🤞🏻

I'm not aware of any reason why you cant sit on the floor? I'm a sahm to a 2yo and I'm 36 weeks pregnant, the floor is definitely not as comfy as it used to be but I use a cushion so I can still get down and play with my son.

So long as you feel okay doing those things then there is no reason you can't continue until you go on maternity.

If you start to have hip troubles like spd/pgp it will become very uncomfortable. I have this (4th pregnancy with it), I was on the floor cleaning our girls room the other day and my hips made me pay for it for the rest of the day.

I was on the floor the other day during my group time and a colleague (that doesn't work in Nursery) came in and asked me was I ok on the floor? I said that I was fine, feel ok. It did make me think though should I?
Thank you for your responses ☺️

I don't see why there would be a problem. You are meant to remain fully active for as long as you are able to during pregnancy.

From experience (3 DC under 5) I haven't stopped doing anything other than running in any of my pregnancies. This includes heavy gardening, housework, changing nappies, going to work in a secondary school.

What does your pregnancy risk assessment say?

In general I just found getting up off the floor hard work due to my size/not balanced....

penguin7 · 16/05/2021 17:24

The risk assessment just states to get a larger chair to sit on if I do feel the need to but I've felt ok up to now.
Some days I don't even feel pregnant is that a common feeling?

I’m 35 weeks pregnant (SPD) with a 14 month old and I still manage a fair bit of the day on the floor and playing/moving around with him.

It’s not easy or enjoyable as it once was and I do burn out a lot faster but it still accounts for at least 2-3 hours of most days

That is a very common stage of pregnancy, enjoy it while it lasts.

I’m a nursery manager and was when I had my daughter 3 years ago too 😊
I’m off on suspended leave due to covid risk this time but I was up and down off the floor when I had my daughter although this got more uncomfortable as time went on!

If you were to have a pregnancy related issue like spd/pgp then sitting on the floor would not be advised. You shouldn't push through to do things which cause pain if you have spd/pgp as you risk doing long term damage.
