Newborn checklist

Hi, could anyone recommend a checklist of what I will need for baby's first month. Feeling completely unprepared so I want to start getting some bits. Everything from clothing to equipment. I did look online for a list but it seems a lot of these list cover a full year & just too much on them.
For example I'm thinking 20 vests & sleep suits to start etc.
Any advice most welcome....

Packet of vests in first few sizes
Same but with sleepsuits
Somewhere safe to sleep
Bottles
Nappies, cotton wool and wipes
Amazon Prime membership

You get given loads of stuff and Amazon/most supermarkets stock the rest so don't panic.

You don’t need 20 sleepsuits to start with! 😳
Maybe 6-10 vests, 6 sleepsuits in the first size. Do you friends who cna give you second hand stuff?
You will muslin cloths, nappies, cotton wool - bottles only if you don’t plan to breastfeed. Small hats, safe blanket or sleeping bags, waterproof mattress protector for cot mattress.
If you are breastfeeding: a nipple balm, breastfeeding bras.

Get bundles of baby clothes from friends/ebay or facebook. They grow out within 3 months and you don’t need to spend tons on baby clothes.
Personally I think a pushchair for walks, some babies might prefer slings.

Agree with @Mummyof2Terrors and would add...

Car seat if you have a car

Find your local sling library and get some sort of stretchy wrap to try

Nappies (small pack in newborn and first size until you know what fits)

More maternity pads than you think you need

Fill the freezer with home cooked meals

Stock up on food you can eat one-handed

Came on to say and sling and a stretchy wrap. I ditched the buggy with DS2 and carried him everywhere.

Pen and paper to record sleep, feeds, nappies etc, and meds for you if necessary.

Echo all the above.

For you - comfy clothes and a bin/stock of pads in each loo in the house.

Also don't plan anything for a few weeks other than bring attainment hed to your newborn. Having no expectations will help it go easier. I know you didn't ask for advice but as I'm here!

This only works if you have an average sized baby. I did not Grin

20 vests etc is way too much. They prob won’t fit newborn size long if at all.

Up to 1 month size, and 0-3 - 8 sleepsuit and vests.
Just buy 0-3 cardigans not newborn, fold sleeve over the first week or two if needed. 2-3 max.
Few pairs socks

Washable wipes ie cheeky wipes we have found easiest, and far easier than cotton wool as then you have a supply and don’t have to constantly buy.

There’s various options of what to buy depending on your lifestyle. But basically buy the bare minimum and then you can buy extra of what you need. There’s no point in buying loads of one thing in case then finding you don’t use them.

Don't go mad. You can always buy stuff when baby arrives. Get stuff for the first month

They grow really quickly. The first sizes for newborn will be too small after a couple of weeks and some babies are born too big for newborn size so just get a few basics and you can always shop once baby arrives

This is quite a good list

coffeefi · 16/05/2021 08:17

Things you need

Pram and car seat
A bed - we used next to me
Moses basket we had only lasted 8 weeks then too small
A couple of blankets
Changing mat
Bag but just a big ruck sack will do. Don't get a shoulder bag. Buy a portable changing mat for bag
Water wipes and nappies
Sudocream for nappy rash or chafing

I hever used a baby bath. I used one of those sponge mats and the first couple baths were done in a bowl
A bouncy or vibrating chair
Nappy bin
If you're planning to breast feed, get some of those ready made bottles for emergency
Of bottle feeding, steriliser, formula, bottles
A perfect prep is good for bottle
Feeding

Currently expecting dc6

Clothes wise i have

0-1 month 10 vests, 12 sleepsuits
0-3 months 12 vests, 12 sleepsuits

I'm not buying 'newborn' as baby as HIGHLY unlikely to be under 9lb

I also have three cardigans, two in 0-3 and one hand knitted, a pack of socks and a couple of 0-3 hats
