Flu and whooping cough jab when pregnant

Hey! I was wondering when did people have these jabs when pregnant?
I was offered them at my 8 week booking in appointment and I’ve said yes to them and that was it I was told they’d be in touch to sort them out for me but I turned 24 weeks yesterday and I forgot all about them until now to be honest, should I chase them up again or is it too late now to have them?
Thanks!

The whooping cough jab is to protect the baby once it comes, until it's old enough to have it's vaccinations, and that protection will work as long as you have the jab before 36 weeks.
Flu protects you from the fact that flu makes pregnant women more unwell, so useful at any point, although flu numbers are extremely low because of all the covid restrictions.

@100milesanhourr I don’t think you’d be able to get flu jab now as not flu season. I was recommended both but had to book them myself. Believe I had flu jab about 11 weeks and whooping cough around 22 weeks x

I had my whopping Thursday at 19+3. I would chase it.

Thanks everyone, I’ll ring my midwife again on Monday, yeah I think I was offered it when I was 8 weeks the flu jab as it was the middle of January but it’s the middle of May now so probably pointless to get the flu one now, I’ll ask again on Monday, ahh that’s okay then so it’s not too late to have the whooping cough one as long as it’s before 36 weeks? I’ll definitely ask on monday, I wasn’t told to book anything in myself that they would sort it but here I am! Haha thanks guys

You can have the flu vaccine at any stage in pregnancy. Usually not given after end of March.
The whooping cough vaccine can be given at any stage after 16 weeks right up until delivery. There is no cut off. It's usually given for logistical reasons around 20 weeks after the anomaly scan for maximum effect.
Practice nurse.

Flu jag at 7 weeks , I get it anyway so automatically got an appointment through.

Whooping cough I got just after my 20 week scan.

I declined the flu this time as baby is due in the summer. It can pass immunity on to baby for the 1st few months so I would leave that until close to flu season if you do want it.
Had my whooping cough this week when I turned 26wk, that has to be done by 32wk. My midwife snd consultant didn't mention this one at all so I booked myself in with the nurse at my GP's.

I had my whooping cough one yesterday at 22+4 weeks, my midwife mentioned it to me at my 16 weeks appointment with her and I just had to ring my GP surgery to get it booked in. Flu jab is already had before I found out I was pregnant in January so was covered.

The whooping cough vaccine doesn't have to be done by 32 weeks. It's preferred but still advisable even until very late in pregnancy.
You may go two weeks overdue.

I had my flu vaccine in April I think as docs still offering / had it. Was due whooping cough at 20wk scan but no nurse to administer so was just told to book it in with docs. Sonographer said no immediate rush on it but I would like to get it sooner rather than later as I had 29 weekers last time and missed out on it!

So just call your docs and ask to book in and if they still are administering flu x

It's off season for a flu jab now we're in May, so you may well be unable to get one.

But yes, you need to remind about whooping cough jab - that's important protection for your baby and it's fine to be done in late pregnancy (you need it done a couple of weeks before delivery, and so allowing for variation in when babies actually, appear then I'd say try to get it before about 32 weeks but later is still fine)

I am 24 weeks and spoke to my midwife she said too late for flu jab/flu season but to book myself in for whooping cough

Girlonthego · 16/05/2021 07:35

Thanks for reminding me OP!
I'm 24 weeks so will organise whooping vax now.

ame88 · 16/05/2021 08:00

I had my whooping cough the other day at 24+6 I had to ring the doctors snd book in - nothing to do with midwife so I would chase!
